The showbiz journey of Dimples Romana is definitely one for the books. It serves as an inspiration for everyone, especially to those who are aspiring to be part of the entertainment industry or who have already taken their first step, to not easily give up on our dreams because our time to shine will definitely come the way we least expected it.

From being a supporting cast member, we’ve witnessed in recent years how she finally scored the once-elusive headliner roles for her. While we’re still wondering whether her character Victoria “Tori” Soler in the highly anticipated High Street is going to be an ally or an enemy, let’s look back first on some of the remarkable television acting stints of Dimples through the years in this edition of Kapamilya Spotlight.

It was in the late ‘90s when the seasoned actress started her acting journey via the classic soap opera Esperanza (1997-1999), wherein she appeared as the secondary antagonist Paula Salgado. She then became part of the youth-oriented series Tabing Ilog (1999-2003) as the irritating and displeasing Jackie, and went on to have short stints in her next TV projects as the young counterparts of the female characters.

Dimples became part of Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay in 2002 as Kayla “Pards” Reneza, the childhood friend of John Lloyd Cruz’s Yuri Orbida, who harbored secret admiration towards him. She went on a three-year hiatus after giving birth to her firstborn Callie in 2003 and made a comeback in 2006 via the TV adaptation of the Pinoy comic book series Carlo J. Caparas' Ang Panday, playing the role of the villain Manaram.

The following year, she got cast in Sineserye Presents: May Minamahal, portraying the role of Trina, the older sister of the male lead Carlitos (Oyo Boy Sotto). She was then tapped to play the important role of Trixie, the closest friend and caretaker of the Chosen One Lyka (Angel Locsin), in the remarkable action fantaserye Lobo.

Her work schedule was pretty hectic in 2009 as she worked not only in one or two, but in five teleseryes. First was in Tayong Dalawa as the young Elizabeth “Mamita” Martinez (Helen Gamboa), second in Kambal Sa Uma as the young Milagros Perea (Rio Locsin); next in the Filipino adaptation of the Korean drama Only You as Dina Javier, the supportive sister of Sam Milby’s TJ Javier; then in Komiks Presents: Mars Ravelo's Nasaan Ka Maruja? as a ghost named Dianne Gomez; and in the sitcom George and Cecil as the sister of George (Judy Ann Santos).

She then wowed viewers with her kontrabida prowess as Criselda Barrameda in the 2010 fantasy-drama Rod Santiago’s Agua Bendita. It was succeeded by her supporting roles in the weekly youth-oriented series Gimik 2010 as Bingbing and in the primetime drama Magkaribal. Her performance as the doting mother Alvira del Valle in the remake of the classic soap opera Mara Clara was also noteworthy, as well as her nanay roles in 100 Days To Heaven (2011), Ikaw Ay Pag-ibig (2011), Oka2Kat (2012), and Lorenzo’s Time (2012).

The seasoned actress continued to play supporting and guest roles in her next teleserye appearances, namely, A Beautiful Affair (2012), Muling Buksan Ang Puso (2013), Mirabella (2014), Sana Bukas Pa Ang Kapahon (2014), Give Love on Christmas Day (2014), and Pasion de Amor (2015).

She went on to captivate viewers anew with her compelling performance as the loving mom Michelle in And I Love You So (2015) and as the responsible momma and daughter Amanda in The Greatest Love (2016). Her participation in the fantasy drama Bagani (2018) as the supernaturally gifted and oddball seer Babaylan Gloria also amused viewers.

Apart from the aforementioned teleseryes, she also lent her talent in some episodes Maalaala Mo Kaya and Wansapanataym.

From playing supporting characters, either as best friend/sister of the lead star or as the kontrabida, Dimples finally scored her first-ever bida-kontrabida role in the hit TV series Kadenang Ginto, impressing us with her portrayal of the now-iconic character Daniela Mondragon.

In 2021, she had a special participation in the inspirational series Huwag Kang Mangamba as Faith/ Fatima, the late mother of lead characters Mira (Andrea Brillantes) and Joy (Francine Diaz). It was immediately succeeded by another mother role in Viral Scandal as Kakay, the mother of Ikay (Charlie Dizon) who got embroiled in a scandalous viral video that changed their lives and dynamics as a family.

Dimples then had the opportunity to unleash the action star in her as she took on the interesting role of Selene in the action drama series The Iron Heart.

And this 2024, it seems that we’re going to see her in another light as she plays Tori Soler in High Street. Is she going to be a friend or an enemy? That’s for us to find out, so make sure to not miss an episode once it premieres this coming May 13 on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, A2Z, and TV5.
