The cast of coming-of-age series “Tara, G!” has taken their closeness to the next level. Watch this episode of Kapamilya Chat and you’ll notice the warm glow of true friendship as they share inside stories on their shoot in Benguet.

“Tara, G!” is the newest barkada show that will appeal to youth’s penchant for adventures and solidarity while delving deep into their struggles working on a shared goal. In a rapidly changing world, Team WISE (Walang Iwanan Sa Ere) tries to save their small community called La Guerta – its culture and livelihood of cultivating coffee to export as beans and wine. The squad is composed of Rocky (Anthony Jennings), Legs (Kaori Oinuma), Dan (JC Alcantara), Jengjeng (Vivoree), Will (Zach Castaneda), Smith (CJ Salonga), and Cars (Daniela Stranner).

Kaori described her character as the ‘ate’ of the group. Blessed with “ganda at galing,” she’s the leader next to Rocky. Zach as Will is the funny and protective guy, while CJ as Smith is the genius.

Kaori, Zach, and CJ own up to the pressure of taking the torch from iconic Kapamilya youth-oriented series (Tabing Ilog, G-mik, and more), all of which they hold in high regard. They know comparisons are inevitable but they’re confident to offer something more unique and refreshing to the viewers. Besides friendship as the central theme, “Tara, G” also focuses on the characters’ individual journeys and contributions to their beloved community, La Guerta. It incorporates tradition, culture, and social media in the story, as well as a glimpse of colorful farm life and the beauty of Benguet.

Asked if they see themselves following in the career footsteps of television’s OG barkadas, they said it’d be a towering dream; nevertheless, there’s nothing wrong with dreaming. Zach wishes “Tara, G!” may open bigger breaks for all of them. But at the same time, they’d just go with the flow, give their best, and see where life takes them.

On their discoveries about each other, Kaori mentioned she’s surprised to know Zach’s funny side and “kaya niya sakyan ‘yung trip naming lahat,” assuming that he’s serious and would struggle to fit in as he grew up in a different country.

On the other hand, they all assumed that Anthony is all about humor like his usual onscreen characters. But in real life, he’s their go-to person for serious talks. CJ revealed that he suffered from depression last year, and Anthony helped him recover through their deep conversations. For Zach, his co-stars’ inspiring talent and work ethics are worth praising. He said they pushed him to also give his best in his first big project.

Looking back on their unforgettable moments in Benguet, the cast was reminded of a supernatural experience. “For some reason, ‘yung set namin naging foggy. As in, it was different, parang walang hangin tapos ang lamig. We were there for a while na, so basically sanay na kami mag-shoot sa lamig pero ang weird ng lamig no’n, eh. In my opinion, sobrang different ng lamig, ng feeling,” Zach began to narrate.

He was standing beside Anthony when the latter asked, “Zach, ikaw ‘yon?” Clueless on what Anthony meant, he just replied, “Hindi, bro.” When Anthony changed his shirt for the next sequence, they were all shocked to see a big scratch on his skin, “Kitang-kita ‘yung scratch. Ang laki tapos ‘yung scratch na ‘yun parang kagat ng something. Thick ‘yung scratch.”

Zach also heard somebody whisper his name. To his surprise, the cameraman beside him heard it, too.

The shoot was delayed by the intense fog and creepy vibe surrounding them. Anthony was starting to feel feverish as well. Director Cathy Camarillo told them she was seeing ghosts in the place, two of which were particularly interested in Zach and Anthony, “Pero for some reason, they were hating on Anthony.”

Direk Cathy then sought the locals’ help for a ritual to drive the bad spirits away. Zach continued, “Si Direk tried to offer candles as offering. She had to call the locals kasi bad omen ‘yun, eh… ‘Yung ritual nila, they had to cook the chicken kailangan walang paminta, asin, anything. Kinain namin ni Anthony. We had a shot of gin as well as part of the ritual. After that, nawala ‘yung fog, nawala ‘yung lamig, nawala rin ‘yung colds ni Anthony.”

Kaori added, “After ng ritual na ‘yun, parang bumalik sa normal ‘yung kapaligiran.”

“Tara, G!” is not a horror story but this experience will forever remind the cast of the memories and bond they shared in their taping bubble.
