Julia Barretto and Joshua Garcia are feeling the love and support on opening day!
Their much-anticipated reunion project, “Un/Happy For You”, not only delighted fans but also made history, earning an impressive P20.5 million on its first screening day, August 14. This marks the highest first-day gross for a local film in 2024, which just solidified its status as a must-watch cinematic event.
Excitement surged as audiences flocked to cinemas across the country. Social media lit up with rave reviews, with viewers eagerly sharing their thoughts on the film’s engaging storyline and the potent lessons they drew from it.
The demand for the film soared so high that some eager fans missed out on the premiere day experience due to sold-out screenings.
The return of the beloved on-screen duo, affectionately referred to as JoshLia by their fans, had been eagerly awaited, and the film’s trailer, featuring a “spicy” twist in the story of Juancho (Joshua) and Zy (Julia), only intensified the anticipation. Plus, Julia and Joshua’s chemistry was off the charts. Even during their first script reading, they were already laughing and having a blast, and they took that energy throughout filming the movie.
Julia immediately expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the fans who turned out in droves to support the film.
“Kayo to!!! Thank you so much,” she stated today, August 15, on her Instagram page, as she reposted Star Cinema’s announcement of the good news.
Meanwhile, also in support of the film, Julia’s mother, actress Marjorie Barretto, hosted a special block screening for family and friends at Power Plant Mall on opening day. The event was packed with celebrities such as Chie Filomeno, Andrea Brillantes, Bela Padilla, Iza Calzado, and Bianca Gonzalez.
Film director and actress Bela Padilla shared her admiration for the lead duo on her X (formerly Twitter) page, saying, “Both shined because both gave each other space to shine.”
Directed by Petersen Vargas and written by Kookai Labayen, Crystal San Miguel, and Jen Chuaunsu, “Un/Happy For You” resonated deeply with fans and sparked discussions about its unexpected twists and emotional depth.
