An EXciting new era awaits JoshLia!

Julia Barretto and Joshua Garcia in tandem are making their unprecedented comeback on the silver screen in the upcoming romance film “Un/Happy For You”, slated to premiere this year. From being teenage co-stars and former real-life partners, to one of their generation’s most talented actors, JoshLia is set to reignite their on-screen chemistry in a story that’s as compelling as it is relatable.

As revealed during their New Movie Alert event last April 24, Joshua couldn’t be more pumped to team up again with Julia, reminiscing on how far they’ve come from their early days in the industry.

“Nung nalaman ko 'yung project, sabi ko yes agad, kasi ang tagal na rin kasi nung agwat nung panahon na nag-work kami,” he recalled. “Before kasi mga teenager pa kami. Ngayon, I can say na siguro nag-mature na rin kami. Lumaki na kami, literal. Exciting lang, nagkanya-kanya kaming journey and parang ngayon magbabalikan kami sa pelikula.”

Julia echoed his sentiments, explaining that the timing and the material compelled her to say yes to the project: “It almost felt like maybe it’s already the right time, it's the right material, we're both in a good place in our life. I’m happy na magkakatrabaho tayo ulit.”

Ready to create something special with JoshLia’s undeniable chemistry is director Petersen Vargas, known for his unique style of storytelling in “A Very Good Girl” and “An Inconvenient Love”. Direk Petersen hinted how this particular JoshLia reunion is poised to hit us right in the feels.

“I’m privileged enough to put my own stamp on a JoshLia film, just because I’ve seen all of their films together,” Direk Petersen spoke as a longtime fan of JoshLia’s films, including his favorite “Vince and Kath and James”.

“When they offered to make a JoshLia movie, the inspiration is overflowing,” he added. “They could expect what would be my take on it. Kasi as their viewer over the years, I feel like this film that we’re gonna release this year is the film that I would see both of them to be making this year, kumbaga as an audience, ito ‘yung gusto kong papanooring JoshLia.”

The movie’s dynamic trio of writers — Kookai Labayen, Crystal San Miguel, and Jen Chuaunsu — teased viewers with juicy insights into how the film tackles the tangled web of past relationships. They’re serving up a story that’s so relatable, you might just feel like they’re telling your own love saga!

Describing this as “not your typical exes movie,” Jen explained: “Kasi kahit may history kayo, mag-ex kayo, ‘yung pain continues, so this is what it's about, ‘yung pain, ‘yung complicated issues that happened if you really love each other back then. Maraming makaka-relate dito kasi lahat naman tayo nasasaktan, lahat tayo may experience with that.”

Despite whatever kind of real-life dynamics, one thing is for sure with JoshLia then and now: they're more than ready to deliver a performance that’s nothing short of impactful!
