For years, Star Cinema has been at the forefront of telling the heartfelt stories of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). These films capture the timeless themes of hope, perseverance, and love, which reign in the lives of our OFW kababayans.
Through its second teaser which dropped on September 16, “Hello, Love, Again”, from Star Cinema and GMA Pictures, honors the stories of OFWs with a heartfelt portrayal of their struggles and triumphs. The two-minute video reminds us of the emotional toll of being away from home, but also celebrates the strength and spirit that these workers carry with them.
The teaser begins with a scene of Joy from “Hello, Love, Goodbye” (2019) standing in front of a flight information board — a symbolic moment for any OFW. This segues to images of an airplane on a runway and a luggage carousel, consecutively juxtaposed with the lines, “Home is where the heart is, and saying goodbye is never easy.”
Cue key movie scenes that OFWs know all too well: leaving home to build a better future, with their love for their families back home making the sacrifices worth it. These scenes are from beloved Star Cinema films such as “Anak” (2005), “Dubai” (2005), and “Hello, Love, Goodbye” (2019) which give us unique perspectives on OFW stories in Filipino cinema. These films, like the upcoming “Hello, Love, Again”, offer glimpses into the challenges OFWs face.
All these moments flash along with the message: “As we build a future searching for a better life, the journey can take us around the world, giving us stories of sacrifice, hope, new beginnings.”
More importantly, the teaser later cuts to moments of real-life OFWs, from preparing for their journeys abroad to bonding with fellow workers in their communities. We are then reminded that their sacrifices are not just fictional depictions but the reality for millions of Filipinos.
The video then flashes its next message: “Para sa mga taong nangangarap, we say ‘I love you’ by saying goodbye. This year, we will come home. We will love again. We will find joy.”
As the teaser nears its end, it delivers a heart-stopping moment — we see Ethan (Alden Richards) spot Joy at the airport. He shouts her name and runs toward her, as she turns around, clearly surprised.
But before we can see what happens next, the screen cuts off to the date “November 13, 2024.”
In just under two months, we will be welcoming back Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards who have returned to their beloved OFW roles, Joy and Ethan respectively, from the 2019 blockbuster film “Hello, Love, Goodbye”. Its highly anticipated sequel, “Hello, Love, Again”, directed by Cathy Garcia-Sampana, hits theaters on November 13, and we could not help but eagerly wait!
As the release of “Hello, Love, Again” draws nearer, we continue to reflect on how the stories of OFWs have shaped Filipino cinema, and how love, no matter the distance, will always find a way.
