Ever since its teaser was dropped by Dreamscape Entertainment last May, upcoming Kapamilya teleserye Senior High has already earned mixed reactions from viewers. But excitement and curiosity prevail upon seeing the stars who are going to significantly take part in it, not to mention its thought-provoking tagline that states, “When the parents are away, the kids will definitely play! Who are you when no one is watching?”, hinting on its dark and mystery-laden narrative.

And just last August 18, the official full trailer of the much-awaited teen drama was finally released, further giving us glimpses on what we should expect once it begins airing on August 28. While we might have already encountered a lot of series in this genre over the years, Senior High definitely has a lot to offer that we probably haven’t seen yet at least in Philippine television. Read on to find out what those could be.

It’s the first-ever solo primetime debut and dual role of Andrea Brillantes

Avid supporters of Andrea would certainly know that she’s been in the industry for more than a decade now. While she has already portrayed a variety of roles since her child star days – from a miserable and endearing bida to a wicked kontrabida that we love to hate – it is going to be her first time to take on a dual role.

Andrea plays estranged twin sisters Luna and Sky, who are going to be the central figures in this fascinating narrative. However, just when they thought that their reunion would be for good, Sky would subsequently see herself confronting the tragic and mysterious death of Luna.

Aside from portraying two characters, this also marks Andrea’s first-ever solo primetime debut. Unlike in the past teleseryes she starred in wherein she had to share the starring credits with fellow actors or she had a loveteam partner, she’s going to solely take the lead in this project.

It puts the spotlight on the future of Philippine entertainment

Andrea may be the lead star, but there are the artists of this generation who are also poised to show what they’ve got in this series as they play more challenging roles.

Senior High Casts

Senior High marks the young actress’ reunion with her real-life best friend Kyle Echarri, to whom she last worked with in the 2021 series Huwag Kang Mangamba, as well as with Zaijian Jaranilla and Xyriel Manabat almost a decade after the three of them topbilled the Kapamilya series Hawak Kamay in 2014.

For singer-songwriter Juan Karlos (or JK Labajo), this serves as his acting comeback six years since he got cast in the primetime drama A Love To Last in 2017. Daniela Stranner also returns to primetime three years after she appeared in Make It With You (2020), as well as Elijah Canlas who just appeared in The Iron Heart earlier this year.

On the other hand, this is going to be the first time for budding actors Miggy Jimenez, Tommy Alejandrino, and Gela Atayde to appear in a Kapamilya teleserye. Miggy and Tommy are both known for their stints in BL (boys’ love) projects, while this is the first foray into acting of Gela, whose Legit Status dance crew recently dominated at the 2023 World Hip Hop Dance Championship.

Indeed, there’s no doubt that these young artists are going to be among the future of Philippine entertainment!

It features some of the industry’s finest talents

Of course, the lineup wouldn’t be complete without the versatile and celebrated artists that we all look up to!

Fresh from her exceptional performance in Dirty Linen, Angel Aquino is about to compel us anew with her depiction of Luna and Sky’s doting mother. Joining her are fellow seasoned actors Ana Abad Santos, Mon Confiado, Desiree del Valle, Baron Geisler, Gerald Madrid, Angeli Bayani, and Ryan Eigenmann, and Sylvia Sanchez.

Talented actors Rans Rifol and Kean Cipriano, as well as esteemed theater thespians Floyd Tena and Kakki Teodoro are going to be part of it, too. Completing the list of casts are up-and-coming actor Rap Robes, who already appeared in a few projects, and well-known voice artist Inka Magnaye, who’s making her debut as an actress.

Senior High has brilliant directors Onat Diaz and Andoy Ranay on the helm, too. Among Direk Onat’s famous works are Starla (2019), Asintado (2018), Wildflower (2017), And I Love You So (2015), and Bagito (2014); while Direk Andoy’s masterpieces include The Broken Marriage Vow (2022), Love Thy Woman (2020), Sino Ang Maysala? Mea Culpa (2019), The Good Son (2017), and Till I Met You (2016).

Direk Onat and Direk Andoy were among the two great forces behind the success of the recently concluded Dirty Linen, so we’re certain to expect outstanding output and shocking twists and turns in this newest ABS-CBN offering.

It will inculcate valuable lessons on family, life in general

Aside from simply entertaining us with the gripping narrative and astounding us with the sure-fire performances of the casts, every teleserye also aims to remind us of the valuable lessons on family and in life as a whole, being it a reflection of what happens in reality.

We’re going to witness the unconditional love between siblings despite their differences and not being able to spend a lot of time together, in the case of Sky and Luna. With the unexpected and tragic death of her twin, Sky is going to great lengths in order to find out the truth and seek justice regardless of what the outcome could be.

The story also reminds us, especially the youth, why important it is to be selective of people we are going to trust and befriend because not everyone and everything is genuine.

It will tackle the different stories, challenges of the current generation

Every generation has stories to tell and challenges to confront, and Gen Zs are definitely not an exception.

And Senior High is going to be bold enough in tackling this generation’s problem on mental illness, bullying, and power-tripping of those who belong to the elite. Besides, it will also show how the dynamics within families and the relationship of parents with their children could create an impact, either positive or negative, on the behavior and mindset of the latter, especially those who are going through adolescence.

Apart from resolving the mystery, we’re also looking forward to find out the respective stories of each character and see why they’ve become the way they are.

Don’t miss the pilot episode of Senior High this August 28 on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, A2Z, iWantTFC, and TV5!
