Contrary to the moniker of their group “Team KALM,” which was taken from the first letters of their names, Karylle, Amy Perez, Lassy, and MC got the spectators thrilled and moved as they offered an enchanting, star-studded musical production on the Day 2 of It’s Showtime’s Magpasikat 2023 fête on Tuesday, November 7.
Perhaps their way of adhering to the “1-4 Ever” (or “one four-ever”) theme of their 14th-anniversary celebration, Team Karylle-Amy-Lassy-MC emphasized the value of family through their whimsical and heartwarming musical performance that tapped into the imaginations and hearts of the spectators.
Opening the spectacle were up-and-rising singer FANA and her nephew Fabio, together with seasoned singer Roselle Nava and her sons Rafa and Ram, who sang an original composition titled “All We Need Is Family.” Cladded in yellow ensembles, Karylle, Amy, Lassy, and MC joined them afterward, along with Batang Cute-po Argus Aspiras, who appeared to be the main star of the production.
The skit chronicled the story of a modern family comprised of the four hosts and Argus, who played siblings. But it was not actually all fun and games to their happy family as Argus had to be left behind by his brothers and sisters under the care of his imaginary friend “Lulu” as they went to work. Seeing how sad Argus was, “Lulu,” a computer-generated character who was, later on, revealed to be Kapuso leading man David Licauco, suggested for them to follow his siblings to work to see how they’re doing through Argus’ imagination.
They initially checked on MC, who works as a security guard at a bank, which turned into a magical forest. MC portrayed how a truly valiant warrior he was through his powerful dance performance with P-Pop group BGYO as they sang their hit “The Light” and through his stunts, as he fought the bad guys. He ended his set by wishing to be able to protect Argus as well.
Lulu and Argus went to Amy next, who serves as a nanny to an affluent family living in a mansion. The viewers, most especially hurado Barbie Forteza, were absolutely exhilarated when she performed Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” opposite Mac Coronel, most popularly known by his stage name “Taylor Sheesh”, the local impersonator of the American global superstar. Tyang Amy was also able to show off her skills in tap dancing prior to her scene with Batang Cute-pos Kulot and Jaze. Her set, which portrayed the struggles of househelpers being able to take good care of another family but not of their own, concluded with her uttering “Sana nayayakap at naaalagaan din kita, Argus.”
The two best friends then flew to the faraway seas to visit Lassy, who works as a seafarer. The comedian pulled off a sultry dance with P-Pop girl group BINI as they performed their song “Strings.” As he fought homesickness and exhaustion, he couldn’t help but hope to be with their bunso often.
And lastly, they came to Karylle’s workplace, which was at a hospital where she serves as a nurse. The hospital then transformed into a battleground, as they depicted how health workers have to combat not just fatigue, but also sickness. She represented it by performing Fifth Harmony’s “BO$$” as she battled it out with the “enemies”. Thankfully, a mighty “resbak” came to her rescue, as signified by her friends Iza Calzado, Sunshine Dizon, and Diana Zubiri cladded in costumes inspired by their goddess or “sang’gre” costumes. This made Karylle wish for her to be able to save Argus as well every time he needs her.
Seeing how her family works diligently for him and bravely faces the threats of their respective jobs, as well as how they didn’t stop thinking about him, made Argus understand and appreciate them more. In spite of their busyness, Karylle, Amy, Lassy, and MC made sure to always make time for their “Family Time,” with the other members of the ensemble cast joining them onstage as they performed “All We Need Is Family” altogether.
Team Karylle-Amy-Lassy-MC truly did a wonderful job in highlighting one of Filipinos’ most admired and renowned values, which is the “close family ties.” Amidst the struggles that we face in our endeavors, we still make sure to spend quality time with our family.
This is also an awesome way to pay tribute to the hardworking members of the family, who have to endure having to be away from their loved ones in pursuit of giving them a better life. At the same time, it’s also an eye-opener to children out there, who probably cannot understand yet why their parents or older siblings have to leave them everyday or for a long time as they go to work.
Aside from the heart and magic it offered, it also brought thrill to the madlang people, especially to the fans of the artists who took part in the whimsical, star-studded musical production. Supporters of P-Pop groups BINI and BGYO, as well as of Taylor Sheesh and David Licauco, were absolutely astonished to see them on the It’s Showtime stage. They also got us nostalgic and even exclaimed “Avisala!” with Karylle’s much-awaited onscreen reunion with Iza, Sunshine, and Diana, who were her fellow sang’gres (goddesses) from a fantaserye they starresd in in the early 2000s.
Indeed, Team Karylle-Amy-Lassy-MC not only succeed in showcasing the creativity and talents of each member of their team and their guests, but also in delivering the valuable messages that they want to convey, in incorporating augmented reality, and in merging Kapamilya and Kapuso stars in one awesome musical production!
