Aside from her timeless beauty, remarkable eloquence, and admirable personality, another thing that we love about Angel Aquino is her formidable acting prowess, which we’re able to witness in the two decades that she’s been in the local entertainment scene. Through the years, she astoundingly portrayed a variety of roles in different teleseryes that indeed showcased her versatility and caliber as an actress.

As we’re about to see her reprise her role Tanya Mae Cruz in the much-awaited youth-oriented drama High Street, the sequel to the well-loved series Senior High that concluded early this year, let’s look back on some of her notable teleserye performances through the years in this Kapamilya Spotlight feature!

She apparently began in showbiz in the late ‘90s as a movie actress, then had her first television appearance as one of the hosts of the lifestyle show “F!” Her teleserye acting journey started in the classic teen drama series Tabing Ilog and went on to play small and guest roles in the succeeding series that she got cast in.

It was arguably in the 2010 critically-acclaimed drama Magkaribal through which her competence as an actress got noticed, as she played the palaban character of Vera Cruz, with whom Gretchen Barretto’s Victoria Valera had altercations after she married her father.

The following year, she became a villain to Erich Gonzales in the Philippine adaptation of the Mexican telenovela Maria La Del Barrio as she portrayed Victoria Montenegro de la Vega, the treacherous best friend of the titular character’s late mom and the domineering mother of her beau Luis Fernando (Enchong Dee).

In 2013, Angel transformed into a blondie as she took on the role of Adrianna Lamayre in Apoy Sa Dagat, a ferocious woman who’s obsessed with her best friend, Ruben (Piolo Pascual). That same year, she wowed us with her impressive transition to Lena Layer in the kiddie serye Honesto, the oblivious and greedy wife of the main antagonist Hugo Layer (Joel Torre).

The year 2014 was quite a busy one for her as she didn’t only star in one, but two telesereyes. The first one was Ikaw Lamang, in which she breathed life to Señora Rebecca Miravelez, the mother of Kim Chiu’s character Isabel Miravelez. Later that year, she was tapped anew to play another maternal role in Bagito, but this time to Nash Aguas who impeccably portrayed the titular character Andrew. Parents of teenage parents were seemingly able to relate to her character, Raquel Medina.

She then starred in another afternoon soap opera the following year entitled And I Love You So, taking on the role of the main female antagonist Katrina Cervantes-Valdez, the equally fierce mom of Julia Barretto’s character Trixie.

In 2016, she became onscreen besties with Pokwang and Carmina Villarroel in the romance drama series Till I Met You. Her character Valerie had a fallout with the two actresses’ characters Cassandra and Agnes as they accused her of being a traitor after she got into a romantic relationship with the same man whom Cassandra used to love.

From playing a marupok character, she eventually amazed us with her portrayal of fearless and strong police official Major General Diana Olegario in the long-running primetime drama FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano. She was among the newest additions to the cast when the second arc of the series commenced in the early part of 2017 and, at the same time, among the several left when it ended in 2022.

Angel then took part in the highly controversial series Dirty Linen in 2023, wherein she wowed us with her compelling portrayal of Feliz Fiero-Pavia, who was belittled by her family for being an illegitimate child of her mom to another man and for marrying the underprivileged Ador (Epy Quizon) whom her family was totally against.

It seemed that taking a break was out of the seasoned actress’ plans last year as she immediately got back to TV via Senior High, as the awesome and palaban mother of Andrea Brillantes’ dual characters Sky and Luna.

Apart from the abovementioned teleseryes, she also had a number of stints in Kapamilya programs Wansapanataym and Maalaala Mo Kaya through which she’s able to exhibit her versatility and dramatic chops.
