Ever since ABS-CBN hinted about Can’t Buy Me Love last year, it has gone to become one of the most highly anticipated teleserye offering of the media company this 2023. Avid Kapamilya fans, most especially the adoring supporters of Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano’s loveteam, fondly dubbed as DonBelle, have been immensely looking forward to it.

And, thankfully, the wait is finally over since it’s already here!

Just in case you’re one of those who think that this is so hyped basically because it stars one of the hottest loveteams in the country at present, here are five more reasons why it’s really a must-watch!

It is DonBelle’s first-ever teleserye as lead stars

We can say that being it a DonBelle series is already a valid point to get excited about Can’t Buy Me Love, right? But what more that it’s their first-ever teleserye in lead roles?

As we all know, it has been two years now since their team-up was born when they headlined the series adaptation of the popular teen novel He’s Into Her in 2021, which was followed by their launching film “Love Is Color Blind” on that same year. In 2022, He’s Into Her Season 2 was released, along with their award-winning film “An Inconvenient Love,” which ushered the return to theaters of Star Cinema.

Both of them may have done a number of series in previous years, especially Belle who began her career as a child star more than a decade ago, but this is going to be the first time that they will headline a primetime drama. Besides, it also marks the primetime debut of Donny!

In this series, Donny takes on the role of Bingo Mariano, a gumptious and hardworking lad from a poor family who has to juggle various odd jobs in order to make both ends meet. Belle, on the other hand, plays Caroline Tiu, a sophisticated and fiery young woman who came from an affluent and traditional Filipino-Chinese family. They may come from two different worlds, but the universe had its wondrous way of intertwining their paths.

It is an awesome collaboration of the country’s top seasoned filmmakers

Aside from having DonBelle as headliners, another reason to be excited about Can’t Buy Me Love is it’s helmed by three of the seasoned directors and story makers in the Philippine entertainment scene – Direk Mae Cruz-Alviar, Direk Cathy Garcia-Sampana, and Direk Ian Loreños.

Ever since the early 2000s, Direk Mae has been offering us movies and series that indeed never failed to pierce our hearts with kilig and drama. Among her most notable works on television are Mga Anghel Na Walang Langit (2005), Maging Sino Ka Man (2006 and 2007), Magkaribal (2010), Sana Dalawa Ang Puso (2018), Ngayon At Kailanman ( (2018), and 2 Good 2 Be True ( (2022).

Direk Cathy, on the other hand, has been working as a director since the ‘90s. in the decades that she’s been in the industry, she is undoubtedly best known for her rom-coms and romance dramas, which include Lobo (2008), Precious Hearts Romances Presents (2008-2010), Got To Believe (2010), Forevermore (2014), The Story Of Us (2016), and My Papa Pi (2022).

Meanwhile, Direk Ian is quite new as he started his career as a TV director under ABS-CBN in 2017. On his first year, he was tapped to helm the afternoon soap opera Pusong Ligaw, and had gone to work on a slew of Ipaglaban Mo episodes. His latest works were Init Sa Magdamag (2021) and the second season of the recently-concluded The Iron Heart.

Direk Mae and Direk Cathy may have done a few projects together or worked on same projects in the past years, such as Pangako Sa ‘Yo (2015), Dolce Amore (2016), and Make it With You (2020), it seems that it’s going to be the first time that they would be working with Direk Ian. And we cannot wait to see the outcome of this incredible collaboration!

It features some of Philippine showbiz’s brightest and fast-rising stars

Of course, it’s not only Donny and Belle who we are going to see in Can’t Buy Me Love, as it also has aboard some of the biggest and most promising stars in the country to provide support to our beloved leads. The roster includes seasoned actors Agot Isidro, Rowell Santiago, Ruffa Gutierrez, and Katya Santos, as well as fast-rising talented acts Maris Racal, Albie Casiño, Kaila Estrada, Joao Constancia, Darren Espanto, Karina Bautista, Vivoree, Alora Sasam, Anthony Jennings, and Gello Marquez.

Veteran thespians Celeste Legazpi and Nova Villa are also part the cast, with the latter making her grand comeback to ABS-CBN after 13 years.

And just last October 11, Star Creatives revealed on Wednesday that Ina Raymundo and Shaina Magdayao are the latest additions to its already stellar ensemble cast.

While we already know the roles that some of these actors are going to play in the lives of Caroline and Bingo based on the trailer, we are excited to find out what the others’ roles are!

It is definitely more than just a love story

And speaking of the trailer, it may have been easy for us to conclude that it’s going to be the same as the other romance narratives that we’ve already seen. As what we have mentioned earlier, Can’t Buy Me Love follows the lives of Bingo, a simple and diligent guy who comes from an impoverished yet loving family, and of Caroline, an apathetic and fierce lady who hails from a traditional and wealthy Filipino-Chinese family.

Apart from the huge gap in their socio-economic status, both of them are going through different predicaments, too. Bingo struggles to earn money for the eye surgery of his beloved grandmother, while Caroline has internal and family problems that she apparently finds difficult to overcome. Their worlds will eventually collide in a totally unexpected circumstance, which will greatly impact each other’s lives.

However, just when you thought that it’s going to be just another rom-com cliché, then you’re wrong. Aside from promising us a different kind of kilig from them, this series will also certainly impart to the viewers significant lessons on life, love, family, and friendship.

It will be released on Netflix and iWanTFC in advance

Following the groundbreaking and successful first-ever collaboration of ABS-CBN with premier global streaming platform Netflix in 2022 via the KathNiel-starrer 2 Good 2 Be True, the two once again joined forces for this year’s much-awaited Kapamilya series.

And seeing the world-class outcome of the aforementioned series, we’re certain that Can’t Buy Me Love is going to be a sure-fire hit, too!

The DonBelle-starrer is going to be streamed on Netflix, with subscribers in the country being able to watch it beginning October 13, a day prior to its release on iWantTFC and three days ahead of free TV. It will be broadcast on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, Jeepney TV, TFC, and A2Z beginning October 16.
