Before artists step onto a set or stage, we all know that it takes them a lot of time and effort in order to fully prepare and pull off a remarkable performance. Others even have their pre-performance rituals which they do to help ease the jitters and anxiety that they feel over what they’re about to do.

And in this exclusive ent.abs-cbn.com feature, we had the chance to ask some of our favorite celebrities regarding their pre-performance rituals. Watch the video and read on to find out!

These celebrities may not have superstitions, but their pre-performance rituals commonly involve food and beverages. Let’s start with the Kapamilya stars who avoid consuming certain kinds of food that they know can take a toll on their performances.

CJ Navato stays away from salty, oily, and powdery food as those could affect the throat. Elisse Joson doesn’t like eating food with strong smells before taping in order to prevent herself from having bad breath. Shanaia Gomez, meanwhile, avoids milky or dairy products since those tend to give her phlegm.

National Artist for Music Ryan Cayabyab makes sure to eat before taking on the stage in order for him to gain the energy that he needs, but never lets himself be full. Similarly, Chie Filomeno reveals that she doesn’t overeat as well in order for her to not feel heavy while dancing onstage. She usually consumes foods that are healthier and carbohydrate-loaded, like sandwiches and potatoes. Actress-host Aya Fernandez also eats a full meal and drinks one hour before to avoid burping while already onstage.

On the other hand, some artists who opt to not take any food, such as Jason Dy who only drinks water in order to avoid burping, suffering from stomach aches, and having food stuck in between his teeth during his performances. But he definitely eats a lot afterwards. The same goes with Idol Philippines Season 2 grand winner Khimo Gumatay as he imparted getting nervous and suffering from acid reflux.

Since he had to look his best for their photoshoots and ramp for the Star Magic Hot Summer 2024 campaign last May 15, “Fan Favorite” awardee Kobie Brown imparted that he actually underwent fasting, which means not having any water or food.

While Tawag ng Tanghalan alumnus JM Dela Cerna confessed that he always has coffee to perk himself up, ASAP Natin ‘To diva Jona prefers to only drink water at room temperature.

Hydration is the key, meanwhile, for KD Estrada, so he drinks water whether he’s singing, acting, or guesting in a show since his throat and skin tend to go dry easily. His loveteam partner Alexa Ilacad, on the other hand, likes to blow bubbles, drink tea or salabat, and vocalize before her performances.

And lastly, seasoned dancer and entrepreneur Regine Tolentino exercises a different ritual as hers involves securing that her costume is safe all the time before taking on the stage and eating chocolates.
