From serenading the customers of his Papa Leohivildo, who sells lighters at a market in Camarines Sur, young artist Rai Fernandez is able to let his voice be heard by the world as he joined The Voice Kids Season 5.
His rendition of the classic OPM hit “Lipad ng Pangarap,” which is probably inspired by his family and his dream of having a better life, indeed impressed Coach Martin Nievera, making him a part of his team.
Although he and his fellow MarTeam members Jade Casildo Camille Mataga all did great with their soulful cover of Jaya’s “Dahil Tanging Ikaw,” it was still the “The Kiddie Kontesero” who reigned during The Battles as he amazed the Concert King with how strong and high his voice was.
Rai continued to blew our minds with how he impressively delivered incredible range on his version of Morissette and Klarisse de Guzman’s “Ikaw Ay Ako.” Thus, all of the three coaches felt nothing but pride towards him.
Coach KZ Tandingan praised him for being able to genuinely pour his heart out, while Coach Bamboo was so impressed with how he’s able to maintain his composure in spite of his overwhelming emotions. Meanwhile, Coach Martin found it so beautiful because of how heartfelt it was.
In the semi-finals, Coach Martin wasn’t able to help himself from getting gigil towards him with how he nailed his rendition of “Ikaw Ang Aking Mahal” by Regine Velasquez-Alcasid.
Apparently, it was not only Coach Martin who got impressed by his performance, but the viewers as well, as the “Emotional Balladeer” garnered the highest percentage of online votes (47.86%). His win ended the journey of his MarTeam mates Giuliana Chiong and Patricia delos Santos in the competition, as they only got 37.58% and 14.54%, respectively.
Will Rai rise to become the newest grand champion on The Voice Kids Philippines? Let’s find out the much-awaited grand finals that you can watch on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, A2Z, and TV5.
