Kapamilya heartthrobs brought their sporty side to Cebu for the Star Magic Shooting Stars Exhibition game last October 7 at the Toledo City Megadome.

As always, the Star Magic boys provided intense action – and kilig – to over 5,000 fans who came to witness the tournament. Those who weren’t able to travel to the venue, aka Team Bahay, had the chance to watch the b-ball battle via livestream. But for those who still missed the hardcourt action, a recap right this way:

Daniel Padilla, who made the crowd go wild just by his entrance, led Team Red, which also had Zanjoe Marudo, Seth Fedelin, and Kyle Echarri. Completing the squad were Paolo Gumabao, Argel Saycon, Gerry Acao, Neil Coleta, and Ashton Salvador.

Team Blue spiced up the game, led by Donny Pangilinan, and was also composed of Jeremiah Lisbo, Miko Raval, Kobie Brown, Jimboy Martin, Young JV Kapunan, Dustine Mayores, and Elyson De Dios.

The event started strong as Team Blue’s Elyson and Young JV contributed three-pointers early in the game. Of course, the crowd produced loud cheers when Daniel made his first two points with four minutes left in the first quarter, let alone when he shot from downtown twice while Argel was primed for the game with his impressive performance. The first period ends with 16-20 on the scoreboard in favor of Team Blue.

Seth was on fire at the start of second quarter with his stunning three-pointer shots, while Argel remained one of the high men of Team Red. However, Team Red’s prowess wasn’t enough to burn the fighting spirit of Team Blue, with Young JV sustaining their lead in most impressive passion. The last five minutes was a rollercoaster, with Daniel beating the clock to cut down the opponent’s lead to four, which resulted in 39-43 on the scoreboard.

Ashton led the spirited rally in the third quarter as Team Red went for a kill with Young JV out of the game in the first few minutes. Daniel, Paolo, and Zanjoe were also huge. It was a stunning scene as the guys in red jerseys showcased strong teamwork; while Team Blue continued to play with spunk, with Mikko, Donny, and Dustine taking care of their team.

Team Red was able to cut the deficit to two. However, with Young JV back in the fold, the latter upped again Team Blue’s lead to five.

The fourth quarter commenced with 64 for Team Blue and 59 for Team Red. The last period drew bigger moves from the players, resulting in a foot injury for Kobie. Three-pointers and awesome defense rained as usual. At 1 minute left in the game, Team Blue was leading with three points. Hope got bleaker for Team Red until the game hit fever pitch anew when Daniel shot a crucial three-pointer to tie the scores at 77. Daniel’s big three-pointer totally turned the tables as Team Red was leading by 1 point with 8:28 seconds left, courtesy of Argel’s free throw shot, leading to their miraculous victory.

Argel was brilliant all night long with 20 points; while Daniel heaped a total of 18 points with 4 triples.

The Star Magic Shooting Star Exhibition Game not only showcased intense hardcourt entertainment but also brought these Kapamilya gentlemen closer to their fans.
