While the DongYan-Star Cinema collaboration — also in partnership with APT Entertainment and AgostoDos Media — may have come as a surprise to everyone, the creative team behind the project had been working on it behind the scenes since 2019. As stated by Dingdong during the “New Movie Alert: DongYan” event, the project has been “years in the making” even before it was finally presented to the public.

“I think 10 pitches all in all were presented to the couple, tapos iba talaga 'to. When this was presented to them, immediately alam ko, wala nang competition. Talagang pumili na sila right then and there,” Mike recalled.

The upcoming film, which will be helmed by director Mae Cruz-Alviar, is described as a family drama with “a touch of magic realism.” While other details are still kept under wraps, the film’s writer, Enrico Santos, hinted that the story has “two timelines” and “two realities.”

“I think that's one of the strongest points, ‘yung strength talaga ng material ni sir Enrico. Totoo ‘yung sinabi ni Daisy, script pa lang, experience siya,” she attested. “Walang echos, parang kahit ilang beses mo siyang basahin, nakakaiyak siya. Nakakatawa, nakakaiyak.”

Dingdong also recalled how at some point they thought the movie will no longer push through because of the pandemic. So when they received the news that “Rewind” will still happen and with them as the lead stars, he and Marian immediately agreed.

“Akala talaga namin for a while hindi na kasi matagal na siyang hindi natuloy. Siguro magpapatuloy siya pero with different actors already dahil sa sobrang ganda ng kwento, hindi pwedeng hindi siya ikuwento. Kaya natuwa ako noong sinabing pwede pa. So, let's do it,” he shared.
