‘REWIND’: Dingdong Dantes, Marian Rivera all set to star in family drama for Star Cinema

For the first time in history, power couple Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera-Dantes are starring in a movie under ABS-CBN Films’ Star Cinema.

In collaboration with APT Entertainment and AgostoDos Media, the showbiz royalties will topbill the family drama titled “Rewind”, as announced during the “New Movie Alert: DongYan” event on Wednesday, June 21. The film will be helmed by director Mae Cruz-Alviar and will be based on a screenplay by Enrico Santos, with Carmi Raymundo as creative director and Daisy Cayanan-Mejares as creative manager.

The film, which Dingdong revealed to be “years in the making,” will mark his and Marian’s comeback movie after over a decade, which makes them all the more excited to do it.

“I always look forward to working with her. Whether [it] be on television or [film], mas lalo na ngayon sa big screen dahil ang tagal naming 'di nagsama,” Dingdong said.

“Finally, makakasama ko na ulit si Dong sa isang napakagandang pelikula,” Marian enthused.

According to Direk Mae, “Rewind” is a family drama with a “touch of magic realism” and revolves around the concept of second chances. The story also ponders the question: "How far would you go to get that second chance?”

If the film’s key art is any indication, blood on the hand and a tear on the sleeve could be pointing to the heavy consequences that Dingdong and Marian’s characters must face.

Daisy meanwhile teased that the movie tackles not only marriage and relationships, but life in general.

“This movie specifically is not just a way to look at our relationships with our family, but it's also a way to look at how we lived our lives,” she explained.

Based on the title itself and the film’s key visual, “Rewind” appears to be not just about relationships and second chances because time also seems to be a major element. Enrico touched on this aspect of the film as he explained how he came up with the movie’s storyline.

“Kaya may relo d'yan kasi sa pandemic minsan maisip mo, may second chance pa ba? Baka mamaya, bukas, may mangyari na. In every relationship, there's always the happiness, the pleasures, the grand gestures, the love. Pero 'di ba ka-mirror image noon ang regret, konting secrets, konting sins? How do we balance it out to correct all of this?” the writer said.

“That's what we concentrate on kaya nakapagrewind. ‘Yun ang effect: parang pinaikot pabalik ang mundo for this movie.” he added.

It also didn’t take much convincing for Dingdong and Marian to agree to do this project with Star Cinema even with their hectic commitments, because the script alone was enough to make them say “yes.”

“Parang bawat pagkwento sa 'kin, bawat paglipat ko ng pahina doon sa script, parang walang tapon sa script, eh. ‘Yun ‘yung dahilan ko, eh. Walang dahilan para hindi ko 'to gawin,” Marian asserted. Agreeing with Marian, Dingdong also believes the movie will resonate with a wide range of audiences.

“Kahit kwento siya ng pamilya, ng mag-asawa, sa tingin ko, bilang isang audience, makikita mo ‘yung sarili mo sa mga characters, eh. Sa bawat isa sa mga character,” he explained.

As actors, Dingdong also said that he and Marian now take into account their children when considering the projects they agree to do.

On top of DongYan giving life to the exceptional material, what makes the project even more special according to Direk Mae is how the movie seemed to fall into place at the right timing.

“This project kasi was offered to us in 2020 pa, before the pandemic happened. I didn't know if it was gonna push through pa kasi syempre, ‘di ba, we were afraid to work and all. And then ito, matutuloy na siya. I think it's meant to be, meant for us,” Direk Mae shared.

No need to wait for too long because "Rewind" is slated for release in cinemas this 2023!
