Just on its title, we can already anticipate that Nag-aapoy na Damdamin will surely fire up our afternoon viewing. And it indeed delivered above and beyond our expectations as what its stars and directors have promised. We’ve probably found ourselves at the edge of our seats because of how thrilling and riveting the scenes in the pilot week were.

The series immediately took our breaths away as its first week commenced with a scene at the operating room, wherein Richard Quan’s character Congressman Javier Buencamino undergoes pancreatic surgery led by Dr. Severino Salazar (Jeffrey Santos).

All the anxieties of his wife Victoria (Maila Gumila) and son Lucas (Tony Labrusca) instantly quelled as soon as Severino told them that the operation was successful, even though it was revealed during a prior conversation of Severino and Javier that he only has 1% chance of survival due to how complicated the process would be.

As they’re already looking forward to Javier being discharged, Lucas and Victoria found out that he made a few changes in his last will and testament a few days before his operation, stating that he would donate 15% of his assets to the hospital of Severino and Joaquin (Joko Diaz). This infuriated them, with Victoria quickly heading to the hospital to talk to her husband.

And the next thing we know, Javier unexpectedly died, with Victoria and Lucas putting the blame on Severino and filing charges against him and the hospital, namely gross negligence, medical malpractice, wrongful death, and lack of informed consent. During the trial, Lucas insisted that Severino had motives to do it, especially that the hospital was facing financial struggles then, but the doctor strongly refuted that they’re able to already manage and control it, and he couldn’t, of course, do it to his beloved best friend.

Later that night, Severino had a brief yet profound conversation with his son Philip (JC de Vera), who he advised, “Huwag kang panghihinaan ng loob kahit hindi umaayon sa’yo ang mga bagay.” Little did Philip know that it was an omen of the grim events that would happen in his life – the deaths of his dad due to alleged suicide and of his mom due to heart attack.

In pursuit of fulfilling his promise to himself to make Lucas pay for everything that he did to their family, Philip plotted a deadly scheme against him. He’s able to track his whereabouts with the help of the GPS tracker stuck to his car by the man he hired named Raul. Unfortunately, his plan of gunning down Lucas didn’t end up the way he expected it as it turned out that the car he shot was driven by his wife Olivia (Jane Oineza).

Realizing the mistake he committed, Philip frantically went to the burning car to take her heavily bloodied and wounded body out of it before it fell off the cliff. We’d surely found ourselves in bated breaths as Lucas arrived at the scene as well while Philip was transporting the unconscious Olivia to his car, but he wasn’t able to see them as Philip sped away.

While Lucas was desperately searching for his wife, Philip and his best friend Emil (Nico Antonio) were busy treating Olivia’s wounds and reviving her. Even though Emil was initially against his plans of taking her in for both of them will surely get in trouble, not to mention that the job waiting for Philp in America will be jeopardized, he’s really keen to exact vengeance against him by using Olivia. Their longtime house helper Manang Loleng (Carla Martinez) also expressed her objection to his idea, but he reminded her of all the help that his family had bestowed her through the years.

As rescuers were able to recover a few remains of Olivia at the accident scene, such as her wedding ring, a few hair strands, and pieces of flesh, it was revealed that Philip meticulously prepared those pieces of evidence and had Raul plant it. These made the authorities conclude that although there was a chance that Olivia survived the explosion, she may not be able to escape the sharks that had probably devoured her.

While Lucas was already going crazy thinking of his beloved wife, Olivia gained consciousness anew, but couldn’t remember anything, even her name. Philip took advantage of it by telling her that she is “Claire” and that she is his wife.

Philip then had the bandages on her face removed, revealing her new appearance. He continues to take good care of Claire while she’s recovering from her traumatic injuries and helps her regain her strength and motor skills.

Ever since losing his wife, Lucas has gone more bad-tempered and volatile, especially towards his employees at his firm. His longtime best friend and staff Melinda (Ria Atayde), who has been secretly in love with him, tried to appease her, which resulted in them having an intercourse. The same with Philip and Claire, who also had a passionate intimate moment.

Rave reactions from enthralled netizens

The Nag-aapoy na Damdamin indeed lived up to its promise of making our afternoons scorching and resurrecting the glory of Kapamilya Gold that avid ABS-CBN fans have surely missed in the previous years.

Just in its pilot week, it has already succeeded in astounding us with the performances of its cast and the overall execution of the scenes.

Jane Oineza proves that she’s indeed worthy to be bestowed the opportunity of headlining this teleserye with how she’s able to amaze us with her portrayal of both Olivia and Claire. Regardless if she had speaking lines or none, the expressions of her face and of her eyes were enough to convey the emotions of her characters.

Netizens also lauded the performances of JC de Vera as Philip, enthusing how he really fits the bill, and of Tony Labrusca as Lucas, raving how he’s able to pull off his always angry and intense character impressively. The same goes for Ria Atayde, who, despite only having little exposure for this pilot week, has effectively depicted her character Melinda.

Maila Gumila is doing a great job in agitating us as antagonist Victoria, while the rest of the actors, such as Nico Antonio, Joko Diaz, Carla Martinez, and Aya Fernandez, are all taking on their respective characters so well.

Even though they had limited appearances in this series, veteran character actors Jeffrey Santos, Lovely Rivero, and Richard Quan were able to astonish us with their respective performances.

Many of the viewers also couldn’t help but gush over how strong and unmistakable the chemistry of JC and Jane is, as they portray Philip and Claire.

Aside from the compelling portrayals of the cast members, viewers are also all props to the seamless execution and beautiful choreography of the scenes, especially of the love scenes. The cinematography is so on-point and the strict attention to details is absolutely unbelievable, too!
