The ‘momshies’ said Jane De Leon encapsulates the qualities of Darna, the superheroine she’s set to play on-screen – find out what made them say so, in this episode of Magandang Buhay The Podcast.
She has a big heart for the family. Their family home in Laguna was a witness to Jane’s close relationship with her parents and only sibling growing up. A certified daddy’s girl, she loved watching her dad, Ruel, in the kitchen and fishing with him. The two were inseparable, thus losing him to an ailment in 2016 made her feel empty – somehow the loss still aches to this day.
Asked what her father could’ve felt about her bagging the coveted Darna role, Jane said Daddy Ruel must be so glad everything’s coming up roses after their family’s hardships.
Every superhero had to start from somewhere and Jane is proud of her humble beginnings. Growing up boyish influenced by her closeness with her ‘kuya’ and dad, Jane did not imagine herself joining showbiz. She did not like wearing dresses and heels if it weren’t for her mom, Marie, who urged her to try modelling.
The early days of her modelling journey proved to be a test of tenacity and physical endurance, add to that their financial struggles. But it’s exactly her family’s difficult life that inspired her to pursue showbiz until, finally, she got her big break.
However, intense bashing came in tow. Jane was at first affected by the naysayers to the point that she believed them. “May point naman din po sila. Sa totoo lang, hindi ko rin po alam kung bakit ako po ‘yung napili,” she humbly said, owning to the fact that she's just a newcomer bestowed with the big opportunity to play Darna. And from there, we can sense that she’s naturally unassuming.
Jane shares her blessings, and her cousin Bong could vouch for her generosity. Find out more in the episode!
