Kaila Estrada is no doubt one of the fast-rising actresses today. After her impeccable performance in her first-ever teleserye Viral Scandal, she impressed yet again in the still ongoing Maalaala Mo Kaya three-part finale special “Scarlet Women.”

The model-turned-actress is certainly making a name for herself.

In the challenge, Kaila mentioned that she is naturally shy even when she was starting out as a runway model. She had her first runway show at 17 and she remembers, “Kabang-kaba ako talaga. Pawis na pawis 'yung kamay ko. Naglalakad lang ako n’un, ah!” She added, “Kung shy ako ngayon, mas shy ako dati. As in 'di ako nagsasalita, as in wala akong kinakausap. Gano’n kasi ako 'pag nahihiya, nandiyan lang ako, hindi mo ako maririnig na nagsasalita.” She still works on overcoming her stage fright and is now more sociable.

Speaking of modelling, her first gig paid her 2, 000 pesos which she used to buy new clothes. After that, she saved up her talent fees to purchase a new laptop for school in college. “Kasi n’ong time na ‘yon, ang hirap kumilos nang wala kang laptop, eh. Kailangan mo pa pumunta sa computer shop o manghiram.”

She also gave a few hints about her previous romantic relationships, saying she had her first taste of heartbreak at 16 because of a crush who didn’t like her back. Then, she had her first boyfriend at 23.

Her first overseas trip was to Hong Kong Disneyland. “Full House” is the first K-drama she fell in love with, “Crush na crush ko kasi si Rain no’n.”

Kaila has good cooking chops. She started with baking and cookies are her first specialty. It comes as no surprise since her mom Janice de Belen is also known for her expertise in the kitchen.

Speaking of mom, Kaila said her mom is the first person who inspired her to become better. “My mom is a strong woman. I admire her for her independence. I admire her for her integrity sa trabaho. I also admire her for going through what she went through with grace.”
