It’s Showtime mainstay Ryan Bang had been so vocal about his admiration towards “Pop Rock Royalty” Yeng Constantino, who he considers as his ultimate showbiz crush. However, we were all flabbergasted when the latter revealed during an episode of Tawag ng Tanghalan last January that the former actually wooed her in 2010.
Just when hosts Vhong Navarro and Vice Ganda thought that she turned him down, Yeng clarified that she didn’t as it was Ryan who suddenly stopped sending her coffee and “ghosted” her, which really made her sad. As she repeatedly refused his invitations to join him and his friends in their late-night gimmicks, this left an impression to Ryan that she didn’t like him back – only to find out 12 years later that those gestures actually made her kilig and that she almost gave him a chance.
This revelation became the talk of the town for a few days and even became among the trending topics on social media. On that same day, Yeng and Ryan thrilled the madlang people with their off-cam conversation after the program, which signified the closure that both of them had been waiting for in the past decade.
The following day, Ryan further explained his side of the story, recalling how he used to belittle himself for having to hitch a ride on her mini van going home, not being able to afford to treat her and her family to a fancy restaurant, and having to borrow his Mommy Vice’s car just to get to her concert in Pasay City. These made him scared to pursue his feelings for her anymore, not to mention that he got intimidated by her stardom and assumed that she already entertained other suitors.
On the other hand, the 33-year-old singer assumed as well that Ryan already got tired of waiting for her and had found another girl that matches him more. She then recalled listening to the song “I’ll Never Get Over You Getting Over Me” that truly reminded her of him during that time. Yeng also took that opportunity to express her gratitude to him for making her feel loved and special.
“Gusto ko ring i-take ‘tong opportunity na ‘to, Ryan, na salamat kasi sa short period of time na pinaramdam mo sa akin na special ako at importante ako, noong time na ‘yon sobrang nag-matter ‘yon sa akin. And what I want us to take from this experience is ‘yong saya na naidulot natin sa isa’t isa no’ng time na ‘yon,” she stated.
Yeng encouraged him by telling him that the person he’s going to love will be so blessed to have him because he knows how to show his affection and appreciation, as well as he’s handsome in his own, unique way. She also enthusiastically showed the tall cup of coffee that he gave her before they went on-air as a peace offering.
The 30-year-old actor-comedian may not be the subject of her hit “Chinito”, as what many madlang people believed, but she disclosed that her another song “B.A.B.A.Y” was actually inspired by him.
Ryan and Yeng further talked about their impeded romantic affair in one of his recent vlogs, while her husband Yan Asuncion was with them. They may not have ended up together, yet through that video, we’re able to witness how they’re able to build their closeness again.
