Vice-Karylle-Ryan HOPE Magpasikat 2024

Just on the very first day of Magpasikat 2024 on Monday, October 21, Team ViRyLe—comprised of Vice Ganda, Karylle, and Ryan Bang—immediately got everyone emotional and moved as they kicked off It’s Showtime”’s 15th anniversary celebration with their heart-rending and inspiring production number that conveys the universal message of hope.

It marked the first time for the three of them to collaborate in the annual ”It’s Showtime” tradition, as well as the first-ever Magpasikat entry to be shown on the Kapuso network.

Their presentation, which delved on the themes of hope and faith, commenced with a little ballerina dancing to the classic theatrical song “Tomorrow” while a shooting star, a.k.a. “wishing star,” was hovering on the screen and suddenly became a ball of sunshine that lit up a green pasture.

A pre-recorded video of the team’s heart-to-heart conversation was played in every segment of the production number, wherein each of them shared their perception on hope and recalled a point in their respective lives that they experienced losing and regaining it.

They started off with Karylle, who fondly talked about her late dad, Dr. Modesto Tatlonghari. She implied how he’s been her constant source of encouragement and inspiration throughout her life in and out of the entertainment industry, thus losing him has been one of the darkest moments of her life.

Karylle indeed made a heavenly entrance cladded in a sparkling white dress and tiny wings that resembled an angel while she was suspended mid-air on a harness along with other dancers. She sang her original composition, later on revealed to be entitled “MT,” which she dedicated to her father. Obviously, she found it hard to contain her emotions, especially in the closing part of her set after a short video of her with her dad was shown on the LED screen.

The second one to perform was Ryan, who instantly turned emotional as he recounted the events that led to the divorce of his parents when he was still a young boy. And this was the inspiration behind his number, through which he’s able to showcase not just his family dynamics over the past years but also his dramatic chops as he did an interpretative dance number to the tune of the hit Korean song “Beautiful.” He was accompanied by a pair of male and female dancers who symbolized his parents.

Vice was the last one to share her story of hope, as prompted by Karylle's expression of gratitude for everything that she has done, especially for the show. The Unkabogable Star then discussed the challenges that have continually haunted her through the years after Ryan showed her a clip from a “Mini Miss U Season 2” episode wherein she unabashedly went vulnerable. With everything that she had gone through, is going through, and will go through, Vice wishes nothing but for God to allow her and people dear to her to overcome and win.

Vice was absolutely fierce as she delivered a highly emotional number that portrayed her inner struggles, which involved voiceovers of the nasty remarks that she and the show have received through the years. She danced to Katy Perry’s “Rise” while being ganged up by dancers in black ensembles who symbolized her detractors trying to pull her and “It’s Showtime” down.

While the first half of Team Vice-Karylle-Ryan’s heart-rending performance was promising and touching enough, we truly found ourselves more astonished and, at the same time, extra touched in the second half. They tapped “TV Patrol” news anchor Bernadette Sembrano to provide voiceover for their VTR, which showed the various “sana” or desires of people from different walks of life every day.

And much to the spectators’ surprise, the line-up included celebrities, such as two-time Filipino Olympian Carlos Yulo, Awra Briguela, and famous Pinoy pop group SB19, who eventually joined Vice onstage in singing the revised version of their song “Liham.” While Vice and SB19 rend our hearts with their singing, the tandem of Karylle and Ryan further showcased their interpretative dancing chops.

The absolutely moving presentation culminated with the tear-jerking surprise reunion of two children with their overseas Filipino worker mom, whom they had not seen for six years.

Here are some of the comments expressed by madlang netizens via X (formerly Twitter) after watching Team Vice-Karylle-Ryan's Magpasikat entry:

Team Vice-Karylle-Ryan’s Magpasikat 2024 performance may have received a variety of reactions, but one thing’s for sure: it successfully delivered the message that the trio and the entire team wished to convey. Their stories, along with those of the persons they invited to join them, are great reminders for us to never lose hope and to hold on to the dreams and desires that He has put in our hearts because God is always faithful to those who believe in Him. At the same time, this is also a visual presentation of the noontime program’s battlecry, “maging tulay ng pag-asa,” that we always hear in the opening of every episode.
