As much as it is anchored in the experience and wisdom of the veterans, the future of showbiz lies in the hands of the industry’s new breed of talents, particularly those who show intense passion for their craft. One prime example is Daniela Stranner, dubbed as the brightest New-Gen kontrabida, who continues to make waves for her portrayal as Zyra “Z” Aguerro in the Kapamilya series “High Street.”
Daniela received praise from fans for her portrayal in the first season, "Senior High." And just when we thought that was her best acting yet, she has taken her performance to a whole new level in the sequel. Marvel at her acting prowess in these scenes compiled by Kapamilya Toplist.
Daniela is adept at portraying her character's multifaceted backstory. We felt her pain when her half-sister and former mortal enemy Sky (Andrea Brillantes) finally reached out upon receiving a photo of her. It turned out that Z had been trying to connect with Sky for years because she had no one else to turn to after her medication for her mental condition. But, strange as it is scary, Sky hadn't received a single call or message from her. Sky was extremely worried about her half-siblings, which is why she was also trying to contact them, but they couldn't be reached. Someone must have been manipulating the situation between them to prevent them from reconnecting.
Besides portraying the drama convincingly, she also masterfully creates suspense in the story. This was evident in the scene where she sensed a potential presence while she was checking out her family's old house. Suddenly, two unidentified individuals launched a surprise attack on her.
She woke up in an unfamiliar location, finding herself held captive. As she vomited, it became clear that her anxiety was being reignited once again. Just imagine the manipulation and trauma she endured in the first season, only to find herself facing hell all over again. Initially, Daniela expressed her fear through silence. But soon, she resorted to frantic shouting, desperately pleading for help or begging her kidnappers. We could fully grasp her inner turmoil and confusion.
While locked up in a chilling hideout by two men later revealed to be working for Nikki (AC Bonifacio), she didn’t have many lines. However, her eyes and overall demeanor were so convincing that you could sense the severity of her mental state at the time, especially as she was confined in a cramped and sinister place. In one poignant scene, she scrutinized a pill she was given, then promptly discarded it, insisting it wasn’t the correct medication for her treatment. She passed out while trying to look for the exit, prompting one of the henchmen, driven by fear, to hurriedly rush her to the hospital, as their orders were to ensure Z's survival.
Z managed to seize a tool from inside the car, hurling it at the man driving, causing him to lose consciousness and providing her with the opportunity to escape. Retrieving the man’s cell phone, she navigated the unfamiliar surroundings, frantically calling for help. Eventually, she dialed Sky's number, who fortunately was with her friends, the Northford High squad, at the time, convincing them that she had indeed spoken to Z on the phone. However, amid their conversation, a sinister figure in black discovered Z, seizing her before she could explain her situation to Sky further. The last thing Sky and her friends heard was Z’s desperate cries for help.
