While a lot of people know how an awesome director and “talent scout” he is, Direk Bobot Mortiz also prides himself as a “cool dad.” And if there’s one important thing that he had ingrained in the minds of his kids, it would be to learn to accept failures because once they know how to deal with it, they’ll definitely know how to handle success well.

It was something that he learned the hard way from his own experience when he was still part of the sitcom “Bad Bananas,” alongside Christopher de Leon and late actors Johnny Delgado and Jay Ilagan. From correcting improper work ethics to being involved in a controversial case and overcoming tough times in his career and family life, he couldn’t help but very proud that he’s able to conquer those.

Kaya ang gustong-gusto ko, kapag gumagawa ako ng mga show, ayoko ng may bida, ayoko ng may superstar. Kapag bata pa, makikinig sa’yo,” he stated, adding that we must completely and deeply feel failure and enjoy the process of defeating it.

But aside from singing, his family, and being a director-slash-talent scout, do you know that there’s another thing that Direk Bobot loves? It’s his vintage cars, with one being featured in this interview as he even let Bernadette and his husband Orange Aguinaldo, experience riding it as well.

But before others would tag him as a hobbyist, he clarified that he is just a sentimental person who values stuff that have significant meaning to him. In fact, his first-ever car, a Mustang 1968 “The Boss” Fastback, is still with him.

Watch the Goin Bulilit creator-director as he talks about showbiz career, being “The Father of Philippine TV’s Biggest Stars,” and his vintage cars in this interview with Bernadette Sembrano.
