GGV Toplist: Stars fond memories as students

We collated in this GGV Toplist the unforgettable experiences of a few celebrities as students, which they enthusiastically reminisced about during their respective appearances on Gandang Gabi Vice.

Before her career as a child star shot up and her schedule became hectic, Kathryn Bernardo was once a school girl. And during the times that she was still able to go to regular school, Asia’s Superstar remembered that they used to have a unique school uniform wittily called “dengue uniform,” which she likened to the typical PE (physical education) uniform. She mentioned it after being quizzed by the host, Vice Ganda, if there was a point in her life when she had to wear the same pair of shoes from one school year to another.

For sure, avid fans of Donny Pangilinan are well aware that he used to be a basketball varsity player way back in his high school days at an international school here in the Philippines. Upon learning this, the Unkabogable Star asked him a slew of questions regarding the usual lives of students there and compared them to the experiences of those who are in public school.

And everyone was astonished to find out from the Can’t Buy Me Love leading man how totally different the food offered in their canteen was and how they had the option to learn other languages aside from English. Besides, another striking difference was how international or private school students were not required by their teachers to bring several school supplies and cleaning materials on the first day of school or to clean their classrooms every day after dismissal since their school has its own cleaning staff.

We know her as a great actress, but not a lot of people probably know that Andrea Brillantes used to be a cheerleader during her student days at Angelicum College. The High Street lead star even showcased her flexibility by demonstrating some of the routines that she used to do.

Following his television debut via the Kapare-Who segment of It’s Showtime wherein he was tagged “Song-gyupsal,” Jinho Bae appeared in an episode of GGV along with his friend Ryan Bang, who was the one who brought him to the noontime show.

Since both of them are pure-blooded Koreans, Vice pitted them against one another by asking them questions regarding their backgrounds, beginning with their educational experience. Jinho studied at a private school in Olongapo City, boasting that he was a three-time student body president, a four-time class president, and the Top 3 of their batch when he graduated. He then pursued college at Mapua Institute of Technology and graduated with a degree in psychology.

On the other hand, Ryan went to an international school in Pasig City, where he was elected as student council president. He then went to De La Salle University for college and pursued business management, but attended classes for only five days due to his hectic work schedule then in It’s Showtime.

And lastly, it was absolutely difficult to hold our laughter when the Unkabogable Star talked about school with her friends, sexy comediennes Rufa Mae Quinto and Ethel Booba. Despite not being able to graduate college, Rufa took pride in being a diligent student, whose favorite subject is Math. She admitted having a hard time with it at first, but Rufa learned to love it eventually, particularly Algebra, since it has little to no memorizations or essays, and even became a “Best in Math” awardee at some point.

On the other hand, Ethel claimed that she used to be awarded “Best in Science.” Thus, Vice asked her what her favorite branch of Science was, which she failed to answer and jested that she got the accolade since it was actually a “money contest” that was based on the total amount of solicitations.

What about you, Kapamilya? What’s your most favorite school memory?
