Just like many of the local artists who we’ve been looking up to through the years, Angeline Quinto also used to join a lot of singing contests and go through a lot of hurdles in life prior to making it to where she is at present.
And from unfailingly astounding us with her singing prowess in the past decade that she’s been in the industry, she’s now one of the Filipino mentors in Dream Maker: The Search for the Next Global Pop Group, the upcoming ABS-CBN’s reality talent search in partnership with South Korea’s MLD Entertainment and Kamp Korea.
But before we get to see her take on her newest role, let’s look back on her inspiring journey in this Kapamilya Spotlight feature!
Born on November 26, 1989, Angeline started joining singing competitions at a young age. She was 12 years old when she joined her first-ever television contest through Star For A Night in 2003, which was dominated by now Popstar Royalty Sarah Geronimo. However, instead of winning, she confessed to host DJ Jhai Ho during her guesting in Jeepney TV’s Showbiz Pa More in 2019 that her real motivation in joining was to see her ultimate idol Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, who hosted the program.
She may have fallen short in her bid to becoming the champion in her initial attempt, but she was able to finally win in her second TV competition via Magandang Tanghali Bayan’s Teen Pop Star in 2005, in which she tied with Sherilyn Flores. Jona and Klarisse de Guzman were also among the participants.
While it was supposed to serve as her springboard to begin her showbiz career, she revealed in that same interview that she decided to completely stop singing for quite some time, as well as in her studies due to her involvement with the wrong clique and their family problems. And seeing the TV advertisement of Star Power: Sharon’s Search for the Next Female Pop Superstar in 2011 inexplicably rekindled her passion in singing and immediately proceeded to the auditions.
Angeline added that it was the last chance she’d given herself and if she failed, it would have meant that singing wasn’t really for her. Fortunately, she took the shot and blew our minds with her powerful performances, including her winning piece “Patuloy Ang Pangarap” that eventually became one of her all-time favorite hits.
Aside from the whopping one million cash prize, an SUV, diamond jewelry, and entertainment showcase, she bagged an exclusive recording contract from Star Records, too. She became a regular performer in ASAP Natin ‘To since then, and is among the Kapamilya artists tapped to sing several soundtracks for ABS-CBN television dramas and films, thus earning the moniker “Queen of Teleserye Theme Songs”.
It was also in 2011 when her first two albums were released – the self-titled Angeline Quinto and the expanded premium edition Angeline Quinto: Patuloy Ang Pangarap.
She became part of various groups in the said musical variety show, with the ASAP Pinoy Champs as the first. She then became one of the DIVAS alongside Yeng Constantino, KZ Tandingan, and Kyla in 2016, to whom she shared the Araneta Coliseum stage with for two concerts, with the second being with the American vocal harmony group in 2018. She also comprised the singing quartet named Birit Queens along with Jona, Klarisse, and Morisette, and they had staged concerts here and abroad.
Aside from singing, Angeline has also impressed us with her acting chops, which she’s able to showcase through her stints in Maalaala Mo Kaya. But prior to that, her inspiring life story was featured in the long-running drama anthology in 2011, with Jane Oineza and KC Concepcion as the actresses who portrayed her.
She had her acting debut in 2012 romantic film “Born To Love You,” with Coco Martin as her leading man. The following year, she became part of the iconic movie “Four Sisters In A Wedding” as the popular Princess Antoinette and “Bakit Hindi Ka Crush Ng Crush Mo” as Tangerine. It was also in 2013 when she starred in the “Ang Bagong Kampeon ng Bagong Taon” episode of Wansapanataym and in Kahit Konting Pagtingin alongside Paulo Avelino and Sam Milby, which served as her first-ever lead role in a teleserye.
Angeline was able to further showcase her comedic chops in the 2014 movie “Beauty In A Bottle,” which she topbilled alongside Angelica Panganiban and Assunta de Rossi.
From being a mere guest, Angeline also became part of the mystery music game show I Can See Your Voice as one of the “sing-vestigators” of the program from 2016 to 2021.
The same goes with her stint in It’s Showtime, wherein from being an occasional guest performer, she went on to become one of the hurados of Tawag ng Tanghalan.
She also appeared in the long running teleserye FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano starring Coco Martin as the character named Regine Moreno in 2017, and in the drama series Huwag Kang Mangamba as the supporting cast member Darling Sanchez in 2021.
To mark her 10th year showbiz anniversary in 2021, Angeline staged a series of 10 concerts titled “10Q” filmed at the Metropolitan Theater and was streamed in KTX.ph from October 2021 to February 2022. She also had the opportunity to share her knowledge, expertise, and talent in music to the hopefuls of Idol Philippines Season 2 when she became their mentor.
Being one of the finest artists in the country, there’s definitely no wonder that she’s among the most prominent and decorated OPM artists. Among the accolades she won were from the PMPC Star Awards, Platinum Circle Awardees, GMMSF Box-Office Entertainment Awards, Awit Awards, Box Office Entertainment Awards, Asia Pacific Luminaire Awards, and the Outstanding Manilan Award.
Aside from reaching out to her supporters through social media, she’s among the celebrities who ventured into vlogging. She put up her YouTube channel in 2018 and has more than 1.36 million subscribers as of this writing.
In December 2021, the 32-year-old actress-singer surprised fans when she initially opened up about her pregnancy through her exclusive interview with the King of Talk Boy Abunda on his online talk program. She and her non-showbiz partner Nonrev Daquina welcomed their Baby Sylvio on April 27, 2022.
And now, she’s yet to take on another role as one of the proudly Pinoy Dream Mentors of the much-awaited reality talent search Dream Maker: The Search for the Next Global Pop Group, alongside Bailey May and Darren Espanto.
