9 Kapamilya teleserye husbands, boyfriends who are major red flags

9 Kapamilya teleserye husbands, boyfriends who are major red flags

There’s an old adage that states, “Love is blind.” But in today’s milieu, wherein problematic people are tagged as “red flags,” it has already been altered to “love is colorblind” for there are some of us who still choose to continue loving someone despite already seeing the warning signals that suggest something is off in his/her behavior.

And it’s not only in real life where “red flags” exist but also in television series, which are said to mirror reality. As we celebrate Valentine’s Day—the time of the year when we are surrounded by everything red and heart-shaped—here are 9 characters from Kapamilya teleseryes who are major red flags:

With how irresistibly good-looking he is, we know how impossible it could be to not fall for the charms of Tyrone, compellingly portrayed by Jericho Rosales. Thus, we really couldn’t blame Jasmin (Jodi Sta. Maria) for easily falling in love with him, as well as Iris (Janine Gutierrez) for finding it hard to let him go despite his infidelity. However, we really hate it that he's the one to blame for why the vicious battle between Iris and Jasmin ignited, which led to a series of disastrous events.

Rafael and Justin, Pamilya Sagrado

From one cheater to another, Piolo Pascual’s character Rafael Sagrado also got into our nerves when his illicit affair with his former subordinate Cristine (Bela Padilla) was unraveled. This took a toll on the mental health of his wife, Mercedes (Mylene Dizon), who killed Cristine out of rage upon finding out about their relationship and their child.

His son, Justin (Grae Fernandez), may not be a philanderer like him, but we hated him for completely disregarding the romantic feelings of Felicia (Alyanna Angeles), who was head over heels towards him. He used to “breadcrumb” her, or give her the attention she yearns from him whenever he wanted just to keep her around, then be distant and cold once he didn’t need anything from her. As if that wasn’t despicable enough, Justin failed to contain his temper in one of their altercations and he hurt her physically.

Alex, Linlang

Aside from his unfaithfulness towards his dutiful wife, Sylvia (Kaila Estrada), there were actually more reasons to hate Alex (JM de Guzman). Among which was having an extramarital affair with Juliana (Kim Chiu), the wife of his half-brother Victor (Paulo Avelino) and getting her pregnant subsequently. Instead of being remorseful and apologetic for what they did, he and Juliana even had the gall to be aggressive against their legal spouses, which resulted to the Alex murdering Sylvia and pinning the blame on Victor.

Rigor and David, FPJ’s Batang Quiapo

Another teleserye husband that viewers absolutely abhor is Rigor (John Estrada). He didn’t only cheat on his wife, Marites (Cherry Pie Picache), with his colleague, Lena (Mercedes Cabral), but he has also been gaslighting Marites by insisting that it was her fault that they had to go through that challenge in their marriage. And sadly, Marites believed at some point that it was indeed her shortcomings as a wife that pushed her husband to commit adultery and even took his mistress to their home.

Apparently, the fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree, for his favorite son, David (McCoy de Leon), also became unfaithful to his partner, Camille (Yukii Takahashi), when she was still alive. From being that sweet and charming guy during their courtship stage, he eventually turned hostile and disrespectful towards her after he got her pregnant. Aside from flirting with other girls, David also treated her as if she was his personal servant, and even abused her physically and emotionally.

Badong, Pira-Pirasong Paraiso

While other men out there strive to look for decent jobs that would help them bring food to the table, Badong (Epy Quizon) resorted to earning dirty money through committing various crimes to support the needs of his wife, Osang (Sunshine Dizon), and to provide her a comfortable life. But he didn’t do it singlehandedly, for he trained their abducted kids, Baby (Loisa Andalio), Hilary (Elisse Joson), and Kano (Marcus Paterson), to be criminals like him, too.

Lucas, Nag-aapoy na Damdamin

It’s truly heartbreaking when you realize that your partner hasn’t moved on yet from his ex, right? And that was what Melinda (Ria Atayde) had to endure as his husband, Lucas (Tony Labrusca), still couldn’t get over his former flame, Olivia (Jane Oineza), even though she’d already done everything she could for him. This often instigated their quarrels, and Lucas once slapped Melinda so hard that it caused her to fall down the stairs.

Kevin, High Street

Last, but definitely not the least, is Kevin (Ralph de Leon), who initially came off as a green flag until he showed his possessive and aggressive facet. For sure, there were viewers who might be rooting for him to become Roxy’s (Xyriel Manabat) endgame because of how a thoughtful he was towards her and her son Riley (Argus Aspiras). But once his true colors were finally unraveled, we wanted Roxy to run from him as fast as she could and as soon as possible.
