Whatever role Rans Rifol takes on, and however minimal her screen time is, she makes viewers go wild about her performance. We witnessed her award-winning acting prowess in A Family Affair and Dirty Linen. And in this edition of Kapamilya React, she looked back on two of her best moments in the said teleseryes and shared interesting behind-the-scenes secrets.

Rans reviewed first her anxiety-inducing conversation with Janine Gutierrez’s Mila in Dirty Linen. In the scene, she asked Mila’s help to escape the Fieros, especially Ador (Epy Quizon), who hired her in his porn business. The exchange was short, but every inch of her character Stella’s fear reeled viewers in. Then, she climbed up the wall to meet Mila’s friend on the other side.

Rans remembered that it was shot until the wee hours, thus they all felt exhausted. Work must go on, and thankfully, Janine helped her tap into her emotions. “Sobrang tinulungan niya ako nu’ng time na ‘yun. Siyempre, lahat pagod na, eh, pero kasi ‘pag siya ‘yung ka-eksena mo madadala ka talaga. So, nadala din ako sa kanya.” She ended taping with a blooper when she called Janine’s character as Stella, “From mataas na level na scene, natawa na lang kami tapos gumaan na the whole night.”

It is said that an actor’s greatness is measured by the impact they leave. True enough, Rans made a mark in the series despite the short screen time. But, did you know that she almost didn’t accept this role? She was admittedly scared, considering that Stella is a contrast to her previous character, Coleen, the submissive wife in A Family Affair.

“Super hesitant akong mag-yes. Hindi ko pa alam kung kaya kong gawin, kung kaya kong ma-portray si Stella kasi super bigat,” she revealed. She carefully thought about it and raised questions to her manager, who immediately gave her the green light. “Sabi sa akin na magtiwala lang ako sa kakayahan ko kasi siyempre nag-trust din sila sa akin na ibigay si Stella.” Always up for challenges, Rans grabbed the role and looked forward to her heavy scenes with Epy, “Feeling ko tumalon ako.”

While her character was killed off months ago, Rans’ final scene where she drowned on a pond continues to haunt viewers to this day. Fun fact: she had to fall into the pond thrice, though she had a body double for the most part.

As an actress, Rans must root for her character despite the skewed moral compass. Thus, she understands the character’s decisions. She’d be as selfless if she were in Stella’s shoe. “Hindi mo siya masisisi, eh. May pinagdadaanan kasi siya. ‘Yun lang ang way para mapagamot niya ‘yung nanay niya saka maahon sa hirap ang pamilya niya.” However, one thing she wouldn’t do is meet up with her killer, as Stella did. She quipped that Stella should’ve just asked Ador to send the money online, as viewers commented.

The second scene features her drama-heavy confrontation with Jake Ejercito’s Seb Estrella in A Family Affair. Here, she unleashed the bitterness and pain of a betrayed wife. Rans recalled she and Jake shot 16 sequences in a day to sustain their big emotions.

“Nadala na rin kami ni Jake diyan. Nasugatan ko ‘ata siya diyan. May binato ako sa kanyang kangkong tapos pulang-pula siya. Ako rin pulang-pula. Tapos talagang nadala na ako. Nanginginig na ako. Super nakakapagod siya,” she looked back.

Rans and Jake skipped the chemistry test and workshops. They just worked on their chemistry on the set. And while it felt awkward at first, they managed to bring out their natural connection, thanks to their teamwork.

“When it comes to drama, feeling ko nakikiramdam lang siya sa akin pag grabe ‘yung scene, ‘pag damang-dama mo talagang mabigat, tahimik lang kami tapos doon namin nilalabas sa mismong scene na,” said Rans, adding that she just imagined the hurt that rips the heart of a cheated wife in real life to vividly paint Stella's emotions.
