To be cast in a teleserye that showcases the crème de la crème of acting alongside veterans and seasoned thespians certainly comes with a lot of pressure. But Francine Diaz, who plays Chiara in Dirty Linen, manages to overcome the pressure and keep up with her more senior co-actors, thus proving herself as one of the country’s finest young actresses.

The young star delivered a breathtaking tapestry of emotions – pain, longing, and anger – in the first scene where she lashed out at Alexa/Mila (Janine Gutierrez) for bringing a cake into her room to celebrate her win in a math contest, which was ignored by her mom Leona (Janice de Belen). Chiara was offended, assuming that Mila did it out of pity. She flipped the cake and said that she is used to being alone, and that doesn’t mean she needs to be pitied. But when left alone in her room, Chiara cried in silence, her tears enough to convey how neglected she felt.

Family problems prompted the young Fiero to rebel by partying and drinking with her friends. Coming home after partying, she got a taste of Leona's wrath. She was slapped and called a disappointment. The hurt and frustration on her face left an immense impact on us, viewers, as if she was saying that she needs love than punishment.

Francine shares plenty of screen time with Janice, and most of them are dramatic and confrontational. And in each one of them, she delivers. There's a scene of Chiara grieving over her dad Carlos (John Arcilla)’s passing, trying to catch his presence through the smell of his old things in his room when Leona came in. Chiara tossed in questions about her mom’s affair with Olga (Andrea del Rosario), resulting in a verbal clash where she wasn’t the winner. Poor Chiara was sent out of the room, and the mansion.

If we only knew that Chiara’s life would turn a downward spiral, we should’ve had our tissues ready because of Francine’s deeply lingering crying scenes. Carlos’ skeletons were exposed one by one, his past affair with Olivia (Dolly de Leon) included. What happened was Leona got so pissed that she hinted at Chiara escaping death in the past.

It’s not easy to live your whole life begging for your mother’s attention, but knowing that she actually wants you dead is a terrible kind of pain. Cue Francine’s full-on crying moments. In the scene where she thought of ending her life, Mila entered the room to spill the biggest plot twist in Chiara’s life – that they are sisters by blood.

Desperate for answers, Chiara confronted each of her family members, from Leona to Carlos and Aidan (Zanjoe Marudo). The most tear-jerking would have to be her conversation with Carlos where she unleashed her pent-up emotions, turning a deaf ear to Carlos' explanation that Leona sacrificed a great deal just by giving her a name. But to Chiara, it would never come off as an act of love. She said that it finally becomes clear: Leona despised her because she was a reminder of their family’s dirty little secret. Outside the room was Leona, tearfully eavesdropping on the conversation.
