He may not be a god or half-Martean like Darna (Jane de Leon), but one thing is for sure: Dr. Ibarra (Lito Pimentel) is brilliant, and that makes him dangerous. Here’s a recap of his most wicked, hated scenes in Mars Ravelo’s Darna.

As shown in this video from Kapamilya Toplist, Dr. Ibarra was introduced in the series as a scientist in charge of the facility housing the Extras and whose experiments are funded by the wealthy Madam Victoria (Carla Martinez).

It would be revealed that Madam Victoria is an alter-ego of Borgo (Richard Quan) and that explains her interest in the Extras. She also challenged Dr. Ibarra to haunt Valentina (Janella Salvador) if he wishes to dissect the latter’s DNA.

As agreed with Madam Victoria, Dr. Ibarra studied the Extras’ psyche until he discovers the presence of chrysalis in their bodies. He said the element has different effects on humans such as super strength and replication. The next scenes revealed how brutal he is inside the laboratory. He put the Extras in invasive brain experiments involving electric shocks in an attempt to concoct the formula that turns humans into cold-blooded villains. Even innocent ones like Annie (Hannah Ledesma) were abducted by Dr. Ibarra as test subjects.

Dr. Ibarra then relayed the experiments’ good results to Madam Victoria, who came to the facility and watched in delight as the Extras demonstrate their intensified powers. Silent Shocker (Boom Labrusca) almost burned the facility by generating electricity while Levitator (Enchong Dee) threatened the security with his powers. But for Dr. Ibarra and Madam Victoria, the more destructive the Extras are, the better.

In the next scene, Noah (Paolo Gumabao) brought Narda (Jane De Leon) and her friends to the facility to quench their curiosity about the Extras. In there, Dr. Ibarra came across Lolo Rolando (Levi Ignacio), who was his former mentor. Lolo Rolando insinuated that Dr. Ibarra stole his reputation, but the latter only mocked his former teacher.

He then spread malicious news about Darna. He granted an interview where he said the fragments of the chrysalis, the green crystal that turns humans into Extras, spread from the cyborg that Darna buried in the quarry years ago, insinuating that the appearance of Extras is all Darna’s fault.

Dr. Ibarra has finally concocted the serum formula that might turn the whole of mankind into Borgo’s army. His final face-off with Darna challenged the latter’s powers. But with Darna’s strong determination and abilities, and with the help of his allies, she was able to defeat the villain. Before he died, Dr. Ibarra declared that his experiments will remain alive to haunt the Martean superhero.
