The stars of “Darna” and the family of its creator Mars Ravelo are overwhelmed by the support they have been receiving from Filipino fans young and old.

In the recent ToyCon PH, “Darna” cast members Jane De Leon, Joshua Garcia, and Zaijian Jaranilla got to meet fans and signed several Darna Funko pops owned by toy collectors.

The trio also entertained questions from their supporters wherein they tackled how their version of Darna is more anchored on modern, relatable scenarios. Jane mentioned viewers must watch for the stunts and fight scenes, as well as her new costume as the iconic heroine.

Zaijian also thanked ABS-CBN for entrusting him with the role of Ding, Darna/Narda’s younger brother and sidekick, “Dahil alam kong napakalaking role niya rin… Bilang ako nga ‘yung magbibigay ng bato.”

The Ravelo family represented by Rex Ravelo, son of late artist Mars Ravelo, is amazed by the amount of love ‘Darna’ continues to receive to this day. “Hindi po talaga kami makapaniwala na after all these years, ang support ng Darna is still there. It doesn’t matter how old you are or kung kahapon ka lang pinanganak, kilala mo na si Darna,” said Rex.

The Ravelos call this a celebration of Filipino pride, “Sa gitna ng superheroes ng Hollywood comes Darna na tanggap na tanggap ng Pilipino.”

Although the core of Darna’s story remains, some parts had to fit the modern times. “Hindi pwedeng hindi updated ang story because the story was 72 years old. So lahat ng mga changes sa story, they’re all in line with the Ravelo family,” Rex added.

Rex was also elated to finally meet Jane on that day, “Of course, gusto niya kami mag-meet but because of the constraints, it never happened. So, now we’re ready to meet her.” He has seen the new Darna fight suit and all he could say is, “The best!”
