Teleseryes that take you on a wild ride to new places and culture become a fascinating journey for the actors and viewers alike. One such series that has been captivating audiences with its exploration of Chinese culture is DonBelle’s “Can’t Buy Me Love,” set in the vibrant streets of Binondo.

In this episode of “Can’t Buy Me Love All Access,” a Made For YouTube series that offers an exclusive peek into their behind-the-scenes adventures, cast members Maris Racal and Anthony Jennings aka SnoRene or MaThon, together with Joao Constancia, Chie Filomeno, Vivoree Esclito, and Gello Marquez experience acupuncture, a traditional Chinese medicine practice.

Led by guest physician and Chinese herbalist Dr. Philip Nino Tan-Gaute, the cast delved into the ancient wisdom of Chinese medicine, which revolves around the concept of the five elements and the flow of qi, or vital energy, within the body.

Dr. Tan-Gaute usually assesses first the patient’s condition by inquiring about their health history and symptoms to determine the appropriate acupuncture points for needle insertion.

Maris took the lead, discussing her morning shoulder pains. However, instead of targeting the shoulders directly, Dr. Tan-Gatue inserted the needle into her arm, emphasizing the importance of manipulating these connecting points in the body to restore balance and alleviate discomfort.

As the session went on, each cast member had their own unique stress-relief experience. Gello talked about his arm pain, but after a single needle went into his scalp, that stiffness was gone.

Anthony mentioned his misaligned collarbone, while Chie learned about addressing her lower back pains by tracing the body meridians.

Meanwhile, Vivoree dealt with upper back tension, receiving three needles. The effect won’t be as fast since they had to consider the severity of the condition, unlike her co-stars who felt instant relief.

Unable to pinpoint any specific ailment, Joao asked Dr. Tan-Gatue to locate the part of his body that usually aches. After checking Joao’s pulse, the doctor detected subtle physical manifestations of anxiety, such as his struggle with sleep. As the doctor placed a needle in his palm, Joao felt a surge of electricity, a physical manifestation of the deep-rooted tension within him.

Throughout the session, Dr. Tan-Gaute dished out tips on common acupuncture points, leaving the group armed with newfound knowledge about this ancient practice.
