The roles she portrayed in the movies and teleseryes that she starred in throughout her four-decade showbiz career might have painted an image of her as a tough and stern woman – just like her FPJ’s Batang Quiapo character Jail Chief Supt./BGen Dolores Espinas – but the late legendary actress Jaclyn Jose is actually soft-hearted and doting, especially when it comes to her beloved children and grandchildren.

And we’re able to get a glimpse of it via their media interviews through the years and the few photos that she and her daughter posted on Instagram, such as the ones that we included in this gallery. Going through these snaps, we could say that they had a lovely, genuine bond even though they’d been living apart from each other in recent years.

As we all know, Andi has been based in Siargao for years now and already has a family of her own. On the other hand, her son, Gwen, seems to be pursuing his studies in the US, as she disclosed in the exclusive interview she had with seasoned showbiz reporter Ogie Diaz on his YouTube channel in 2022.

During their hearty and insightful conversation, Jaclyn opened up about how it felt difficult and painful for her, especially at first, to be away from her brood and to live all by herself. However, she knew that it was what they needed and she also didn’t have the choice because both her kids were fully decided already. Besides, she’s not the type of mother who would hinder her kids to pursue whatever would make them happy and free, as well as live life according to how they wish it to be.

“Ayokong pigilan ‘yong mga anak ko sa mga gusto nilang gawin kasi ako, nahawakan, napigilan. Kung ano man ang gusto nilang tahakin, gusto ko silang hayaan. I want them to enjoy life kasi life is short,” she stated.

While there are parents who firmly believe that they’re always right and their children must obey them, the award-winning veteran star disagreed with this notion as she actually learned a lot from Andi, especially when the latter became a mom herself.

“For one, ‘yong pagre-resign para sa mga anak, hindi ko kayang gawin ‘yon. Doon ako bilib na bilib sa kanya. ‘Yong kinalimutan ang sarili, ‘yong lifestyle,” she related.

Jaclyn had also been expressive of how much she admired her firstborn with regards to how she raises her three kids Ellie, Lilo, and Koa and takes good care of them by herself wherever they go. At the same time, she confessed to getting ‘intimidated’ by her kids more as she tended to get worried more about what they would feel rather than what other people would say. And she felt it more with Andi, who had proven her wrong several times already through the years.

Their relationship might not be perfect just like other mother-child tandems as they also had their own share of misunderstandings through the years, yet those didn’t hinder them from forming a beautiful connection. Whenever their little family were given the chance to see and bond together, they made sure to make the most of every moment since they only had limited time. From dining out and roaming around, Jaclyn apparently enjoys fulfilling her lola duties with her adorable grandchildren, too.

Jaclyn succumbed to myocardial infarction or heart attack on March 2, 2024 at the age of 60.
