Ever since the full trailer for the second year of FPJ’s Batang Quiapo was released, revealing the newest additions to its continuously growing roster of cast that would further spice up ever-unfolding narrative, fans of promising actor Elijah Canlas weren’t able to contain their excitement upon seeing him. And in previous week’s (February 26 to March 1) episodes, he finally had his debut through the highly anticipated appearance of his character Pablo Caballero.

Impressed by his performance during his first-ever boxing match versus Lawrence (Paolo Gumabao) in which he won, Santino (Ronwaldo Martin) was enlisted by Coach Gary (Levi Ignacio) to participate in the Manila Invitational Cup. He is poised to fight against returning great boxer Gabriel “Gagamba” Gamboa, so Coach Gary advised him to focus on his trainings and pray hard at the same time.

After their meeting, Santino was surprisingly approached by Lawrence to offer himself to be his sparring partner as her trains for the upcoming tournament. He might have shown sincerity, but Lawrence seemed to be brewing something wicked against Santino anew.

Just when Olga (Irma Adlawan) thought that she and David (McCoy de Leon) already got one less problem after he successfully murdered Ramon’s (Christopher De Leon) most trusted right-hand Severino (Dindo Arroyo), he confessed that his secret isn’t safe yet as Edwin (Ping Medina) spotted him near the crime scene that eventful evening. This ensued to an altercation between them, as she reprimanded him for doing a messy job.

Still troubled by the real identity of “David” after Severino uttered the name before his last breath, Ramon sought the help of his friend PBGen Avelino Rivas (Pontri Bernardo) in hunting him down, as well as Edwin, who is currently the primary suspect after Rigor (John Estrada) caught him at San Dimas along with his group.

Even though he initially got perturbed by Ramon’s eagerness to find the real culprit behind the murder of Severino, David was still able to put his arrogance and confidence on display during the business meeting of the Montenegros with the Caballeros. Since he’s poised to be the heir of the Montenegros, not to mention that he has to conceal his real identity, “Fake Tanggol” requested Ramon and Don Julio (Tommy Abuel) to start calling him “Jesus Nazareno Montenegro” so that he would be taken seriously by their business partners.

Just on their first meeting, David and Pablo immediately had a heated altercation after the latter interrupted the former while delivering his speech, telling him, “Huwag kang mangako ng alam naman nating ‘di mo kayang gawin. Walang maiaambag ang isang galing sa wala na kagaya mo.” This led to a fisticuff and pointing guns between them and their minions, which only stopped when their respective families arrived at the scene. Don Facundo (Jaime Fabregas) apologized to the Montenegros and asked Pablo to apologize, which he refused to do since he doesn’t see himself getting acquainted with him, more so befriending him.

While Jail Warden Gerardo Balatucan (Robert Seña) died after being fatally shot during the riot, Chief Dolores Espinas (Jaclyn Jose) and Jail Lt. Antonio Macasantos (Lao Rodriguez) were able to survive the fatal shots they sustained. Thus, Rigor (John Estrada) continued with his investigations regarding his suspected illegal activities inside the National Correctional Facility (NCF). He started with gleaning information from Macasantos, who relayed to him what transpired earlier that day, as well as the identities of Bubbles (Ivana Alawi) and Bong (Vandolph Quizon). As Rigor further quizzed him about Bubbles, Macasantos simply told him that she’s a trustee of Chief Espinas, who is in-charge of attending to the prison store. On the other hand, he declined his query regarding Tanggol being a trustee as well.

Rigor then went to Aling Myrna (Myrna Castillo), the mother of Enteng (Jojit Lorenzo), to interrogate her about the money she received from a mystery woman. He showed her a picture of Bubbles and confirmed that it was indeed her who visited at their house. Thus, he persuaded her to cooperate with them by giving a statement, to which she was hesitant because of safety reasons.

Upon learning from the news about the riot that occurred inside the NCF, Olga immediately reached out to her politician-friend Congressman Fernandez to seek his assistance in taking her daughter Samantha (a.k.a. Bubbles) out of the prison, regarding him as a minion of hers. The politician enumerated the possible ways of doing it legally, but she insisted for them to take on the faster and easier route although they will need to pay a hefty amount.

Meanwhile, Lena (Mercedes Cabral) invited Marites (Cherry Pie Picache) to have a tête-à-tête regarding Tindeng’s (Charo Santos) claim that she and Rigor have an illicit affair and the scandal she did at the police station. Marites directly asked Lena if there’s really something romantic going on between them, which the latter denied, insisting that they’re simply close friends and colleagues. Of course, Marites didn’t completely believe Lena, warning her that she’s actually worse than her mother when it comes to making a scene once she finds out that the allegation is true.

Marcing (Pen Medina) and Nita (Susan Africa) secretly got reunited with Edwin, clarifying to them that it wasn’t him who murdered Severino, yet he has an idea who it is. He also invited them to come with him, but they refused as they didn’t want them to serve as hindrances to his plans. Thus, he just promised to visit them from time-to-time and to never stop searching for Mokang.

Considering how Rigor vehemently reacted upon seeing him earlier, Tanggol knew that his perception on him would never change anymore. Thus, he decided to just go with it by escaping from the facility in order to search for Mokang’s (Lovi Poe) husband, who he assumes is the one who killed her. Since they’re not keen in joining him, Tanggol’s friends simply offered him tips, reminders, and prayers.

On the night of his great escape, one of the new inmates Marcelo (Nonie Buencamino) caught him in the act. But instead of stopping him nor reporting him to the guards, he even helped him destroy the railings at the comfort room and joined him in his pursuit. They succeeded and went straight to a nearby beerhouse as suggested by Marcelo. Unfortunately for them, the waiters figured out that they were fugitives due to the shirts they were wearing and the way they behaved.

As they talked about his terrible journey that led to his imprisonment and his motivation in going out of prison, Marcelo offered to help Tanggol, which the latter was still quite hesitant to accept.

Rave comments from netizens

The February 26 to March 1 episodes of FPJ’s Batang Quiapo were truly exciting, especially for the fans of Elijah Canlas, who had been looking forward for the appearance of his character Pablo Caballero. And the long wait was definitely all worth it as the actor served us not just with his swooning looks and voice, but with his impressive portrayal, too!

His supporters apparently lost it immediately as soon as he graced our screens with his presence, with others jestingly connecting his first-ever scene to what happened to his another character, Archie, in his previous project Senior High. Besides, they also expressed their all-out support to Pablo as he went head-to-head with David, as well as their delight that the abhorred antagonist finally found his match in him.

Apart from Pablo and David, another pair of characters to have a showdown were Marites and Lena, who amused us with their metaphorical exchange as they discussed the rumors beleaguering the latter and Rigor. Whoever came up with their striking dialogue about their respective preferences in coffee, which impressively reflected their perception on love and the love triangle formed among the three really deserves a raise. Viewers certainly felt proud and happy for Marites for the fierceness that she displayed in that particular scene, especially her retorts to Lena that probably wowed many and even made us clap or utter “mic drop!”

Going through the tweets posted by Kapamilya netizens on X (formerly Twitter) using the official hashtags of each episode, they apparently enjoyed the previous week’s episodes. Here are some of them:

Are Tanggol and Marcelo going to be captured by the police and bring them back to prison? Will David and Pablo really become allies and friends? Well, let’s all find out by not missing an episode of FPJ’s Batang Quiapo, weeknights at 8PM, on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, and A2Z.
