Viewers of FPJ’s Batang Quiapo were shocked – and heartbroken – by the sudden death of Lovi Poe’s character, Mokang, on Thursday night, January 4.

In the trending episode that brought audiences to a wild ride, Mokang’s reunion with Tanggol (Coco Martin) ushered them to a fearless shootout with Mokang’s husband Ramon/ Albert (Christopher de Leon), who was bent on taking her back.

Olga (Irma Adlawan) and her desire to avenge her son Greg (RK Bagatsing), whom Tanggol killed in cold blood, came to aid in the intense fight. Just as Olga was about to finish Tanggol, Mokang ran towards Tanggol in an attempt to save him, but only to catch the bullet that was meant for him – talk about the sacrifice of one’s life as the greatest testament to love.

The episode drew 412, 818 live concurrent viewers, which only shows how everyone’s hearts were deeply crushed by Tanggol losing his first love

The reel was drenched in nostalgia, guaranteed to elicit happy smiles and tears among the show’s fervid followers. Lovi looked back on her FPJ’s Batang Quiapo journey – from its announcement to promo activities, earliest taping days, and the scenes that unleashed her funny ‘jologs’ side.

In the caption, she wrote, “A big part of my 2023 was breathing life into a character I have grown to love – what a privilege it was to play Mokang. She was a fighter and she taught me how it is to be truly free.”

She hinted that leaving the show wasn't easy, but she must take the courage to open new chapters, “It really was a tough decision for me to make but I have decided to turn the page.

For Lovi, playing a part in FPJ’s Batang Quiapo has allowed her to also be part of her father Fernando Poe Jr.’s legacy, “I am truly blessed to have been part of a project that represents my father’s name. It was a first and it will always mean the world to me.” She thanked Dreamscape Head, Deo Endrinal; ABS-CBN COO for Broadcast, Cory Vidanes; and the ABS-CBN management for giving her a missing piece to her puzzle. “For that, I will always be grateful,” she further expressed.

The Kapamilya actress went on to thank her FPJ’s Batang Quiapo family, with a sincere promise to always cheer for them from afar.

Heartfelt appreciation was also given to her leading man, Coco Martin, “Direk Coco, my dad’s legacy is in great hands. Salamat at ipagpatuloy mo. Coco, I will always be one of your biggest fans.” She ended her message for Coco with a light-hearted but caring request, “Please try to get some sleep.” In response, Coco left heart emojis in the comment section.

Lastly, she addressed everyone who loved Mokang from start to finish, “Sobrang mahal ko din kayo.”
