Charo Jaime: Working w/Coco Batang Quiapo

Aside from action and drama, “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo” also offers its fervent viewers kilig scenes, courtesy of the various tandems that were formed in the series. In the past more than a year that it has been on-air, several pairings were actually introduced that either made us kilig or mad.

And one of the unexpected yet admired team-ups that was established in the series was of veteran actors Jaime Fabregas and Charo Santos, fondly called “FacunDeng,” which is the fusion of the names of the characters they play, Don Facundo and Tindeng.

In this episode of “FPJBQ Cast Update,” Charo shared that they always look forward to the scenes that they’re going to take for the day since their co-actor-slash-director Coco Martin is fond of improvisation, so they would really not know unless they read the script. Jaime echoed it, saying that one of the first things that he does every time he arrives on the set is to ask for the script to find out what they are about to do for the day.

Aside from the excitement brought to them by that technique, the two veteran thespians also like improvisation because it also keeps them on their toes and keeps their memories sharp.

Ang gusto ko kay Coco ‘yong pagiging extemporaneous niya. He’s always improvising, [kaya] ‘di mo alam kung saan pupunta ‘yong scene at sequences. Pero maganda rin ‘yon kaya sabi nga, it keeps us on our toes, it keeps us whole, tapos nabibigyan kami ng chance na mailabas naman ‘yong ano mang konting talento ang meron kami,” Jaime conveyed.

Charo was also all-praises for the Primetime King. She expressed, “Coco is very intuitive as an artist. Alam niya ‘yong pulso ng audience. Nakikinig siya sa gustong makita ng mga manonood. So, talagang nadi-direct niya ‘yong narrative sa exciting twists and turns of the stories para fully engaged ang mga viewers. Napakagaling ni Coco sa gano’n.”

Catch Charo and Jaime on “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo,” weeknights at 8 p.m., on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, A2Z, and TV5.
