ASAP Natin ‘To indeed turned our Sunday brighter and livelier as it once again provided us with world-class entertainment and star-studded performances in its latest episode aired last October 9.
Tagged #ASAPshining, the episode was commenced by Zsa Zsa Padilla, Enchong Dee, and Robi Domingo, with MNL48 kicking off the opening number with their rendition of “Shining Star” by Get Far alongside Regine Velasquez-Alcasid. AC Bonifacio then took the stage to show off her spectacular dance moves.
Enchong, Nyoy Volante, and Erik Santos then rocked the stage with OneRepublic’s “Counting Stars”, while the ravishing trio of Sheena Belarmino, Shanaia Gomez, and Anji Salvacion exuded their sultry sides as they belted out “Stars Are Blind” by Paris Hilton. Chie Filomeno further set the dance floor ablaze with her sexy grooves.
Ogie Alcasid and Darren Espanto had us grooving to the 90’s hit “Stars” by Simply Red, as well as Zsa Zsa and Kyla who sang “Superstar” by Jamelia. Meanwhile, Francine Diaz, Alexa Ilacad, and AC were joined by dance hotties Krystal Brimner, Jin Macapagal, Jameson Blake, and Joao Constancia as they performed “Starships” by Nicki Minaj.
Martin Nievera capped off the spectacular opening salvo with “All Star” by Smash Mouth, with the all-star cast of ASAP Natin ‘To joining him on the stage afterwards.
Some of us probably found ourselves reminiscing as Alexa, Anji, Zsa Zsa, and Regine belted out three of the memorable hits of celebrated female popstar and “America’s Singing Sweetheart” Mandy Moore, namely, “Only Hope”, “I Wanna Be With You” and “Cry.”
After getting to know them a bit more through the five interesting facts about them, ASAP Rockoustic Heartthrobs KD Estrada and Kice then went on to swoon us with their version of “Unwell” by Matchbox Twenty and “I’ll Be” by Edwin McCain. As soon as their set was finished, KD didn’t miss the opportunity to greet his singing partner a “happy birthday.”
Concert King Martin then went to touch our hearts as he belted out two of his hits “Ikaw Ang Pangarap” and “Kahit Isang Saglit”, alongside Idol Philippines Season 2’s Khimo Gumatay and Bryan Chong and Tawag ng Tanghalan alumni Sam Mangubat and JM Yosures.
Millennials and Gen Zs out there surely got delighted by Adie and Janine Berdin’s performance of their hit collab “Mahika”, and by Ace Banzuelo’s duet with Moira dela Torre of his song “Muli”. Of course, the ASAP fambam didn’t let the “young-at-hearts” down as Gary Valenciano, Ogie, Erik, Nyoy, and Jason Dy got us grooving to some of the Manila Sound hits, comprised by “Sumayaw, Sumunod”, “Bongga Ka ‘Day”, “Tayo’y Magsayawan”, and “Awitin Mo at Isasayaw Ko”.
After Sheena Belarmino and AC Bonifacio put the ASAP stage on fire with their fiery and sexy showdown in the Clash Dance segment, Morissette and Gigi de Lana then went on to wow us with their powerful vocals as they belted out “Hindi Tayo Pwede” and “Hatid” by The Juans, who are going to hold their concert on October 23 at the Araneta Coliseum.
As one of the illustrious Kapamilya homegrown talents and longtime mainstays of the Sunday variety show, ASAP certainly didn’t forget to pay tribute to King of Teleserye Theme Songs Erik Santos as he celebrates his birthday! And they did it by having some of the songs close to his heart be sung in The Greatest Showdown.
The birthday celebrator himself opened the segment by singing Ben&Ben’s “Leaves” with her beautiful and talented younger sister Hadiyah. They then gave the stage to the next performers, who were some of the few people dear to him in the industry.
First off was the mother-daughter tandem of Divine Diva Zsa Zsa Padilla and Karylle, who sang Patti Austin’s “If I Believed”. They were followd by Ogie Alcasid and Jolina Magdangal who performed a duet of Silent Sanctuary’s “Sa’Yo”.
Darren Espanto and Moira Dela Torre then impressed us with their rendition of “Araw Gabi” by Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, which was followed by Martin Nievera and Frenchie Dy’s duet of “Sunlight” by Kevyn Lettau.
Lastly, Asia’s Songbird Regine and Philippines’ Queen of RnB Kyla belted “Wind Beneath My Wings” by Bette Midler, and were afterwards joined by the rest of the performers onstage.
As he expressed his love and gratitude to them, Erik also revealed the greatest gift that he could ask for his birthday this year, which is prayers for his beloved mom’s complete healing. He then went on to impart that “Wind Beneath My Wings” is the song that he dedicates to her.
“It’s been challenging for the family for the past months, and gusto kong maging masaya siya, so kapag napanood niya ‘to, alam kong magiging masaya siya dahil ‘yong kantang ‘to, and on my very special day, I would like to honor her and to say that, ‘I love you so much, Mommy’,” he stated, not being able to hold back his emotions.
He added, “Nandito lang kami para sa’yo. You are our hero, together with Tatay, and I want you to know that you have been and will always and forever be the wind beneath our wings. We love you and kaya natin ‘to. Kapit tayo. I love you, mommy!”
His little sister Hadiyah further made her kuya cry as she conveyed how much she adores and appreciates him, as well as how thankful she is to have him as her brother and how she will always be there for him through no matter what
