As if imitating the plot of their recent “Love Bites” episode, Sky Quizon and Genesis Redido were once compelled to choose between two important things – love and career. Obviously, they picked the latter.

In their recent guesting on Kapamilya Chat, Sky and Genesis talked about Love Bites: “He Must Choose” presenting the real-life love story of Nathan (Sky), who would be torn between his LDR boyfriend Jeff (Nico Antonio) and newfound friend Darwin (Genesis).

Sky and Genesis said the characters resonate with them in that they give their all to the person they love. And for Sky, that’s not a weakness or being ‘marupok' but something he’s proud of, “To be able to love without expecting anything in return, and to love just for the sake of loving, is something that you should be proud of because it is strength.”

For him, loving despite the possibility of getting hurt is power, and the greater the pain means the greater the love that was given, “Kakambal ng pagmamahal is lagi ‘yung masasaktan ka. In my experience, the more that I get affected or feel pain and hurt, the more that the love is real.”

As for Genesis, there’s nothing wrong with that. Being able to love is a gift. But he also acknowledges the dangers of giving your whole heart to the other person. Of course, nobody wants to be abused.

The host asked if they experienced choosing between two important persons or things as Nathan did in the story. The answer is ‘yes.’ But theirs was a choice between love and career.

Genesis revealed he broke up with an ex-partner to pursue acting. He believes showbiz will only knock once, whereas love can arrive anytime. He said his family is not well-off so he wants to give them a comfortable life, which felt more possible when an acting opportunity came. And he thinks it was a wise decision. After all, that ex is now his best friend.

Romance also had to take a backseat for Sky. That’s how it’s always been since he was a student until now as he pursues acting. Besides, he believes that love will arrive when it’s supposed to, sometimes when you least expect it.

Love Bites: “He Must Choose” marks another BL story for Sky. Asked if he’s not scared to be typecast in such roles, without any hesitation, he said he’s not. When the BL genre gained popularity in the country at the height of the pandemic, fans insisted to see Sky in a BL show. And he takes it as a compliment than an insult.

In the first place, he’s not one to reject a project, considering the impact of the pandemic on jobs. He also appreciates the trust of his producers, which only shows they see his potential.

More importantly, Sky believes the Boys Love genre needs further representation, especially in the Philippines, thus his eagerness to star in BL shows like Love Bites: “He Must Choose,” “It opens a lot more room for discussions para mas matanggap ng society natin na these kinds of love exist and they are as valid as the heterosexual relationships na meron.”

Sky is glad to be part of this breakthrough in the mainstream media and for the LGBT community, “Nakakatataba ng puso na maging parte in this sort of a revolution ng pagbabago in mindset, in ideology, in accepting everyone that no matter how you identify yourself, when you love, you love.”

They went on to share their experience working with each other. They only met during their script reading. So, Sky, being the introvert trained in doing extrovert things such as hosting and facing people, thought he must start breaking the ice to make it less awkward during the actual shoot. He messaged his co-stars to get to know each other, and luckily, they all had an instant connection.

If you still got no clue who Nathan chose, stream Love Bites: “He Must Choose” on ABS-CBN Entertainment's YouTube channel.
