With their level of influence, celebrities can have a powerful impact on how young people view themselves and the world. They can affect the way the youth acts, dresses, behaves, and dreams. Kapamilya stars, in particular, readily accept the huge responsibility that comes with being role models that kids look up to, especially those who wish to take on the same path in showbiz.

Watch them advise young aspiring artists in this video!

Darren Espanto entered the industry at the age of 12 via “The Voice Kids Philippines,” thus his advice wouldn’t be so hard to swallow. “Kailangan paghandaan mo ‘yung mga pwedeng mangyari sa showbiz. It’s bittersweet. Hindi siya lahat ups, may mga downs din na mangyayari. Just stay strong. Make sure that you’re mentally prepared na maging isang public figure na pwedeng batikusin,” he said. “Just don’t let it get you. At the end of the day, kung passion mo ‘yan, go for it.”

Edward Barber likewise sacrificed his prime teenage years for his showbiz dream by joining Pinoy Big Brother Teens. Therefore, his advice to aspiring actors/actresses is to pursue their goals but also get a life outside showbiz. It’s also important to be surrounded by the right people “who will correct you.” He imparted, “Kasi minsan people will tell you what you want to hear or what they think you need to hear. But you really need people who love you enough to correct you when you are wrong.”

It’s Showtime’s Jackie Gonzaga shared similar advice, telling the youth to never neglect their studies. “Para ‘pag pumasok sila sa showbiz, at least may fall back, may baon sa sarili nila. Education is very important.”

As a showbiz veteran, Ogie Alcasid has poured blood, sweat, and tears into getting to his status. “It’s not something that is just for glamor. This is an honest-to-goodness means of working.” He pressed, “You have to be serious about it.”

Rookie actress Yukii Takahashi, who is slowly gaining popularity as Camille in FPJ’s Batang Quiapo, underscored the importance of patience, as you have to wait for your time to bloom. “For me, before, it was not happening kahit ano’ng gawin ko at that time. Pero masasabi ko na it’s really God’s perfect timing,” she looked back. “Huwag mong papakinggan ‘yung sinasabi ng iba. It’s okay to be crazy as long as you’re crazy for your passion.”

Shanaia Gomez likewise experienced rejections and endless auditions, yet she never gave up on her dream. “For example, PBB, dalawa o tatlong beses ako nag-audition for PBB bago ako pumasok. Nag-audition pa ako for ‘Batang Quiapo’ bago ako naging Selene. Before, noong nagco-commercial ako, ilang beses ako nag-audition pero hindi ako natatanggap.”

She added, “Habang naghihintay kayo, improve n’yo pa rin ‘yung sarili niyo. I-practice n’yo pa ‘yung mga skills n’yo.”

Cliché as it may sound but Jake Ejercito would vouch for the importance of believing in yourself.

As Anne Curtis puts it, passion will always be inevitable. That’s why she wouldn’t stop her daughter, Dahlia, from pursuing showbiz if that’s what her heart really dictates.

Vice Ganda would keep it simple: “Go!” He admits that good things happened after he joined showbiz, so he’s willing to support those who wish to follow in his footsteps and promised to guide the new generation of stars.

Ryan Bang is also full support for young people who hope to enter the industry. Meanwhile, Cianne Dominguez talked about the grit and endurance needed in the riveting world of entertainment. “Kasi hindi madali. Kailangan mo muna maging okay sa sarili mo. Kailangan mo maging mentally, emotionally ready sa sarili mo bago ka pumasok sa showbiz.”

Known for always creating compelling characters, RK Bagatsing underscored the importance of knowing what your job will be. In the field of acting, learning never stops. “Pag-aralan n’yong mabuti ‘yung papasukin n’yo kasi mas tatagal ka sa career na ‘to kung inaaral mo ‘yung pag-arte, inaaral mo ‘yung lahat ng factors that can be used ng isang magaling na artista.”

Once you’ve learned the ins and outs, Jhong Hilario urges you to give your best. “Sanay tayo sa lahat ng bagay ay ginagalingan.” And at the end of the day, it all boils down to passion.

So, kailangan n’yo paghirapan. But, matitikman din nila ‘yung saya.”

Anji Salvacion had wise words to share with aspiring stars, too: “I don’t believe in failures. You only fail once you give up. Just keep on pursuing your dreams with a grateful and genuine heart.”
