As we all know, the Star Magic Ball is among the most prestigious celebrity and fashion affair in the country through the years. Thus, attendees make sure that they would dress up to the nines, especially the ladies who saw it as a perfect opportunity for them to get dolled up and feel like a princess (or even a queen!) for a night.
And throughout its 10-year run from 2007 to 2017, we’d witnessed the fashion evolution of our favorite celebrities on the red carpet, such as the ones we listed in this Kapamilya Snaps feature.
Jane Oineza
Since she was only 11 when the star-studded affair was launched, it was only in 2012 when Jane had her maiden appearance, which she marked by stunning in a simple strapless sweetheart white frock. She continued to literally and figuratively shine in the succeeding years as she opted for bedazzled silver numbers from 2013 to 2015.
And in 2016, the Nag-aapoy na Damdamin lead star astonished us when she appeared in a sultry black gown that showed off more skin through a plunging neckline and thigh-high slit. The following year, she paraded down the red carpet in a shimmering strapless black ball gown with low back.
Alexa Ilacad
It was in 2014 when Alexa attended the Star Magic Ball for the first time. And in the first three years of her attendance, her choice of outfits made her look like a princess straight out of a fairytale. She had a beaded halter white dress on her first year, an off-shoulder blush pink frock with eyelet details in 2015, then a white ball gown with appliqued bodice in 2016.
The Pira-Pirasong Paraiso actress then switched up her look into a sultry strapless black sheath dress with thigh-high slit, which she punctuated by letting her center-parted long straight mane down and sparkling necklace.
Sue Ramirez
A year after her showbiz career took off, Sue made her debut at the annual gala in 2011 wearing a black and gold dress. She went on to experiment on a variety of designs, silhouettes, and color in her succeeding appearances, in which she sashayed down the red carpet in a black sweetheart gown (2012), patterned strapless frock (2013), sleeveless grey dress (2014), gold sweetheart ball gown (2015), and a peekaboo white frock (2016).
Her fashion evolution through the years reflected how she has apparently gained confidence. So, in the 2017 Ball, the The Iron Heart actress dared to go fierce in a black patterned sheer gown that teased her sexy curves.
Elisse Joson
Even prior to her remarkable stint in Pinoy Big Brother Lucky Season 7 in 2016, Elisse had already been appearing in the Star Magic Ball since 2012. On her first two years, she opted for black gowns, then shifted to white numbers in the next three years that further highlighted her glowing fair skin.
And in 2017, the Pira-Pirasong Paraiso actress dazzled in a shimmering sleeveless dress that had a see-through corset-like bodice that gave us a peek of her flat abs. Letting her center-parted long straight hair down and accentuating it with a fancy hairclip made her look dainty, too.
Sofia Andres
Did you know that Sofia was only 13 when she began her Star Magic Ball journey in 2011? She marked her debut by putting on a black number, then went on to parade in elegant white and champagne gowns with silhouettes that are appropriate to her age in the succeeding four years.
As she turned 18 in 2016, the The Iron Heart actress had gone a bit daring by donning an intricate black halter dress with a narrow plunging neckline and low scoop back. The following year, she kept her look simple yet classy by wearing a floor-length white dress with gold straps, waistband, and other details.
Kathryn Bernardo
Two years after her graduation from Goin’ Bulilit, Kathryn had her maiden appearance at the Ball in 2011. Since she was only 14 then, she kept her look chic and conservative by wearing a one-shoulder black dress with exaggerated silver and black bow.
She went on to give us princess-vibes in the following years, until she decided to step up her fashion in 2014. Adhering to the “Old Hollywood Glam” theme, the Asia’s Superstar arrived in a heavily-embellished and feathery sleeveless dress with low neckline. She then wore a form-fitting white dress with laser-cut details in 2015, then a glittery black tube number with thigh-high slit in 2016.
And it seemed that Kath saved the best for last as she sashayed down the red carpet of the last Star Magic Ball in a dreamy beige ball gown that she matched with a romantic coif.
Julia Montes
It was also in 2010 when Julia made her red-carpet debut, wearing a black and silver A-line dress. From plain and simple, she went to put on patterned and embellished in the next three years, until she astonished us with the plain black long-sleeved bodycon frock that she wore in 2014.
The FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano actress then paraded in a plain white ball gown with sweetheart neckline and bejeweled waistband on her last attendance in 2015.
Janella Salvador
In her maiden appearance to the Ball in 2012, Janella absolutely looked like a teen prom queen in a black collared A-line dress with encrusted sweetheart bodice and a tiered skirt. And she went on to exude that vibe in her succeeding stints, until she opted for a quite daring ensemble in the last two editions of the star-studded affair.
The Mars Ravelo’s Darna actress was drop-dead gorgeous in the white halter number with silver patterns and a long train that put on in 2016, then went fiercer in the heavily-embellished one-shoulder gown with thigh-high slit in 2017. Letting her smooth, silky long hair down absolutely worked its magic in both looks.
Dimples Romana
We can all agree that Dimples is the queen of simple but elegant looks. Ever since her maiden appearance in 2010, her preference for non-elaborate yet classy numbers are truly noticeable. She made her debut on the red carpet by sashaying in a one-shoulder black dress that resembled that of the goddesses.
The The Iron Heart actress then experimented on other colors, silhouettes, styles, and designs, with her patterned mermaid dress with striking red bow in 2012 and her chic black dress accentuated with gold accessories in 2017 as two of her stand-out looks.
Jodi Sta. Maria
Ever since appearing on the Ball in its inaugural edition in 2007, Jodi always looked youthful and sophisticated. Going through her portfolio, it’s easy to say that her go-to colors were white, silver, and black – just like the other actresses.
Arguably, some of the award-winning actress’ remarkable fashion moments on the red carpet were her empire waist dress in 2007, her Tinker Bell-esque hairdo and encrusted sweetheart white number in 2009, and her all-white pantsuit number in 2014.
Kim Chiu
Being one of the few celebrities with a perfect attendance in the glitzy affair since its initial staging, Kim’s presence has been highly anticipated every year. She made her debut in an eye-catching hot pink column dress with ruffled neckline, then went on to wear mostly white, and sometimes black, to exude maturity and sophistication.
And throughout the It’s Showtime host’s 11 appearances, among the top faves were perhaps her one-shoulder champagne tulle frock in 2009, her bejeweled feathery white sweetheart gown in 2012, her form-fitting cream number with black patterns in 2014, and her glittery patterned black gown with low-cut neckline and black tulle cape in 2016.
Erich Gonzales
Last, but definitely not the least is Erich, who’s also among the Kapamilya stars with untainted attendance in the Star Magic Ball since its launch in 2007. She marked her debut by sashaying down the red carpet in an immaculately white floor-length tiered number.
Erich’s portfolio included a mix of conservative and sexy outfits, wearing mostly pieces in neutral colors, except when she put on a red gown 2011 and a silver peekaboo ensemble in 2014. Her sultry beaded halter dress in 2017 was definitely a showstopper, since it was her fiercest and most daring look on the red carpet.
