“The Rain in España” is the newest Wattpad adaptation series that’s bound to steal our hearts with its youthful love story set in a university. Lead stars Heaven Peralejo and Marco Gallo dropped by Kapamilya Chat to tell us more about the series and reminisce about their sweet reunion on the set.

In case you missed the first episode, which streamed last May 1, “The Rain in España” revolves around Luna (Heaven) and Kalix (Marco), who failed to make their college romance work. They meet again a decade later at their workplace.

The plot isn’t far from Heaven and Marco’s real-life friendship, as they also reunited for this series years after their Pinoy Big Brother stint. Taking us back to their first meeting on the set, Marco thought Heaven was “still as beautiful as before, just a different beauty” because she’s grown more mature. Meanwhile, the first thing that she noticed was that he isn’t as “payatot” as before. Just by a glance, she knew her partner has been working out.

Working with an old friend is always a great feeling. There’s nostalgia, fun, and comfort. She mentioned that she wouldn’t be comfortable working with leading men other than him, who knows what makes her tick. “Alam niya rin kung paano ako paligayahin after a tiring day. Kasi mabilis ako mapagod, eh. Alam niya kung paano ako kilitiin,” she said Marco knows how to read her mood.

Marco added, “On both sides, we understand that we had different paths and right now we’re doing this together. So, we know how hard it can get at work. The only support that we can have is each other. So, we really just talk to each other with an open heart.”

It felt like getting to know each other all over again. “We have long talks ‘pag may time kami. You know, we have the same goal. And because we have the same goal, same drive, kaya kami nagiging close talaga. Kaya gusto namin the best for ‘The Rain in España.’” Teamwork makes the dream work for MarVen!

They went on to talk about their heavy breakdown scene as shown in the trailer. Heaven admitted it was hard to tap into Luna’s painful emotions at first since she hasn’t been into that kind of hurt. She had to pour the pain into Marco before take until she has fully imbibed the tone of the scene.

The tandem is aware of Wattpad readers’ sky-high expectations whenever their favorite books are adapted on the small and big screen. Admittedly, they knew fans were reluctant when they were announced as “The Rain in Espana”’s lead stars, yet they just enjoyed the process and delivered their best. And based on netizens reaction to the full trailer and first episode, Heaven and Marco have proven themselves worthy of taking on Luna and Kalix’s characters.

In the story, Luna is brave enough to make the first move on Kalix. Asked their opinion about this in real life, Marco thinks it’s a plus point if the girl does something first as it reflects her sense of confidence and independence. As for Heaven, she strictly follows her parents’ rule to have the guy court her at home, “So never ako naging straightforward with my feelings. Kasi alam ko dadaan muna sa pamilya ko bago ako.”

MarVen closed the interview by telling their wishes for each other. Marco’s words will definitely make any girl kilig, he told her that he’s going to stick by her as a friend whether or not they get more projects together. Heaven likewise underscored that they would remain friends on- and off-cam.
