It’s not like she’s a stage tita or anything like that, OPM singer Fana is just proud of her nephew, six-year-old Fabio Santos, for earning a spot in Martin Nievera’s team on The Voice Kids Season 5. In this exclusive video, Fana talked about her musical bonding moments with Fabio and their preparations for The Voice.

Watching her little rock star pamangkin belt out “Nosi Ba Lasi” live during the Blind Auditions admittedly made her feel nervous, “Kasi siyempre hindi ko pa siya kabisado kung kaya niya sa maraming tao kasi siyempre six years old pa lang siya. Pero bigay-todo din talaga si Fabio.”

“’Yun ang gusto ko kay Fabio talagang confident, eh. Talo niya talaga ako sa confidence, guys, kasi ako, kabadong-kabado pa ako. Pero siya nu’ng sasalang na siya, hinihingi na niya ‘yung mic. Sabi niya, ‘Nasa’n na ‘yung mic? Kakanta na ako.’” she revealed.

But it was also her presence that gave Fabio reassurance. Before he stepped on the stage, she told him to just enjoy his performance and sing from the heart, which he did. Fana said these are the same lessons she picked up from her experience in singing competitions including The Voice Teens (2017).

She mentioned that Fabio has long dreamed of joining The Voice Kids and would even pretend that he’s on the show pressing an imaginary red button on tables and chairs at home. “Finally, nabigyan siya ng chance kaya masaya-masaya ako at super proud ako sa kanya,” expressed Fana with a smile, excited about her nephew’s trainings with the iconic Concert King.

She helps prepare Fabio for the next round of the competition, and she’s happy to see the young boy’s eagerness to clinch his dreams. She can sense that Fabio is truly ready and passionate about this, “Naglalaan siya ng time for practice and sobrang bilis din talaga ng pick up niya with the tune, with the song. Kaya I’m happy na willing siya makinig sa akin.”

Bonus trivia: Fana and Fabio love to sing together with their family, and the future rock star’s top three songs to perform are “Nosi Ba Lasi” (his favorite since he was a baby), “Banal Na Aso,” and “Buwan.” “Sobrang gulat na gulat ako kasi rock ‘yung mga trip niyang songs.
