Ardent supporters of DonBelle were surely delighted after ABS-CBN Studios and Viu proudly unveiled that the well-loved tandem of Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano will headline their latest collaboration—“How To Spot A Red Flag"—through a story conference held on Wednesday, September 25.

ABS-CBN News’ Gretchen Fullido had the chance to interview the loveteam after the event for this episode of “On Cue”, as they talked about its premise and the new roles they were going to portray, as well as what made them accept the project and how excited they are towards it.

Since it's their first time to collaborate with Dreamscape Entertainment and Viu, the two couldn’t be more thrilled about this project. Donny conveyed that it inspires him how everyone involved in this shares the same goal of bringing something different to the table and putting their 110% best efforts and hearts into this project.

“I think this is something that a lot of our supporters have been waiting for—to come up with a project na iba naman ‘yong atake. Medyo light naman, feel good; very different from our previous projects as well,” Donny said.

He added that aside from the interesting title, story, and characters, not to mention working opposite Belle anew, it also thrills him that they’re going to have a lock-in taping at a beach in La Union.

As Belle stopped Donny from divulging further details about their latest project, she went on to impart that listening to the discussion made her realize that a lot of things can be learned from it, too, since it’s going to be relevant, especially for Gen Zs like them. At the same time, the premise got her so curious and extra ecstatic to do it and eventually watch it.

With their upcoming series being about “red flags”, DonBelle was asked their personal definition of it. Belle eloquently defined “red flag” as something a person does that goes against your values,” or the so-called non-negotiables," to which Donny agreed. Both of them agreed that the greatest red flag for them is someone who’s a liar and untrustworthy.

While they found it difficult to point out each other’s “red flags,” it was relatively easier for them to divulge their own. For Belle, it’s her being indecisive which she’s been working on, while Donny said that it’s probably his being spontaneous to a fault and being a procrastinator.

Apart from being a romantic comedy, DonBelle related that what sets it apart from the past projects they did is the totally different personalities of the new characters they’re about to play. Belle will portray Cha, whom she described as someone who is trying to prove something to herself. Thus, she expects that there’s going to be personal growth on how she will forgive herself for everything that she has done.

Donny, on the other hand, will take on the character of Mino, who he tagged as an “introvert” and “good boy,” to which he can quite relate. His character’s name may not be finalized yet, but what they're certain of, as of that interview, is that something will happen to Mino whenever he lies.

As Gretchen quizzed DonBelle about their reaction when “How To Spot A Red Flag” was pitched to them for the first time, Donny revealed that it was actually not the first concept pitched to them because there were a couple of other stories laid to them. However, they requested to do something that is way different from “Can’t Buy Me Love,” which is much lighter, and the management gladly granted it.

Moreover, hearing the premise and the twists and turns of the story also exhilarated Donny so much that he wanted to shoot immediately since it had been quite some time since the last time that they did it. Besides, he also finds it thrilling to work in a totally different environment and with a new director and set of actors. Apart from exhilaration, he also feels very privileged and blessed to be part of this project.

Belle, meanwhile, reiterated that her curiosity got enkindled, which made her yearn to know more about the story and her character. Besides, it also marks her reunion with Dreamscape Entertainment after working with them on a past project.

Alluding to the title of their newest project, Gretchen asked DonBelle for advice regarding “how to spot a red flag.” For Donny, he related that one of the significant things he learned in life is to also look at the people that a person is very close with because it can reveal his/her characters or principles. Meanwhile, Belle reminded everyone to not be blinded by acts of grandeur but rather look what’s within since, after all, it is the small things that matter.

Donny and Belle will be joined by a stellar roster of stars that include Jameson Blake, Angel Aquino, Mylene Dizon, Christian Vasquez, and Benjie Paras. “How To Spot A Red Flag,” which will be streaming soon on Viu, is produced by Dreamscape Entertainment and directed by Dwein Baltazar.
