Elisse Joson as Hilary and Sophie

For many actors, giving each of their characters a distinct flavor is a real challenge. But it’s also a chance to display their incredible talent and range. Take, for instance, Elisse Joson’s highly-praised performances as Sophie in Dirty Linen and Hilary in Pira-Pirasong Paraiso.

These characters are total opposites, as one is sophisticated while the other is ‘jologs’ and funny. Adding to the challenge is the fact that Elisse has appeared on both shows at the same time. But never did she mix up her roles, which only proves how varied she can be as a performer.

Netizens are even amused with how unmistakably different her characters are from each other. So, for everyone’s dose of entertainment, Kapamilya Update presents Hilary and Sophie’s ‘sosyal and ‘not sosyal’ way of dealing with things.

The first scenario is asking for a drink. Sophie knew what to order when she chanced upon Aidan (Zanjoe Marudo) in a restaurant. She called the waiter and asked for white wine, delivered with proper articulation, class, and eloquence.

Hilary, on the other hand, mispronounced champagne as ‘campaign’ in a conversation with her family.

How does a ‘sosyal’ woman speak? Sophie does it so elegantly her voice sounds like music to one’s ear. Meanwhile, Hilary, albeit confident, speaks with a thick Pinoy accent. Read: “Ar yu redi to hab pan?”

In another scene in Dirty Linen, Sophie offered Aidan food by asking if he would like to have French toast and coffee. In a jologs way, Hilary offered her crush, Jonaf (Ronnie Alonte), a box of budget-friendly pizza.

Speaking of food, Sophie mentioned “emotional eating” when her dad noticed her big appetite. As for Hilary, she eats with one leg up and mouth open, and we don’t think she’d call it emotional eating.

Of course, they have different tactics for winning their crush’s attention. Sophie likes to do it in a subtle and sultry way, while Hilary doesn’t mind asking Jonaf to accompany her to the market.

Now, let’s talk about a grand entrance! Sophie sashayed her way to Aidan, unintentionally making Alexa/Mila (Janine Gutierrez) feel intimidated. As for Hilary, she entered Diana (Charlie Dizon)’s house with a boisterous greeting and told Baby (Loisa Andalio) that nobody would dare ignore her ‘alindog’.

We love Elisse’s duality! As netizens point out, Sophie is for ‘sophisticated’ while Hilary is for ‘hilarious.’ Catch Elisse in Pira-Pirasong Paraiso, Mondays to Fridays at 3 pm, and Saturdays at 2:30 pm, on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, TV5, and A2Z.
