You can’t always predict the type of person you’ll fall in love with. In Dear MOR’s Celebrity Specials: “Heart Wrecker,” letter writer Jeremy (Anthony Jennings) found himself catching feelings for Jelai (Rans Rifol), a person he never expected to like. And while they tried looking past their differences, there was one thing that was a potential deal breaker for Jelai.

Jeremy, a worker in a creatives company, is a quiet guy who likes to keep to himself. However, he got further isolated from his officemates when he got caught in an office romance that didn’t end well. His former flame Aiza dumped him to return to her ex, Gilbert. Jeremy was not only ashamed of himself, he was also pegged as the bad guy for initially stealing Aiza from Gilbert. In reality, Jeremy was just trying to save Aiza from a toxic relationship. He merely fell in love in the process.

Jeremy worked peacefully while avoiding everyone in the office until Jelai came along. Jelai was his college batchmate. They weren’t close, but Jelai was a social butterfly that didn’t care about that. For her, everyone was a friend. And since she knew Jeremy, she was always hanging around him. Of course, it annoyed Jeremy how talkative she was, but he simply couldn’t get rid of her.

Over time, Jelai grew fond of Jeremy despite his grumpy nature. And slowly, this fondness turned into something more. She eventually confessed that she liked Jeremy. Sadly, Jeremy didn’t want to get into any relationship. Aside from his trust issues due to his disastrous relationship with Aiza, he and Jelai were just too different.

As they went back to their regular routine, Jeremy couldn’t help but find himself missing Jelai. While he didn’t want to admit it, it was obvious that he was jealous of guys that Jelai would entertain or converse with. This made Jeremy realize his own feelings, which pushed him to have an official relationship with Jelai.

Jeremy warmed towards Jelai and liked her company. He still didn’t mingle with other people, but he was willing to step a little out of his comfort zone for her. Although, their clashing personalities would sometimes get the best of them and misunderstandings would grow.

Their honeymoon phase reached its peak when Jelai organized a surprise birthday party in the office. While she simply wanted Jeremy to open up to their workmates, Jeremy was still ashamed of the scandal he had and could not bring himself to see his ex-girlfriend Aiza with Gilbert. He stormed out of his own party, which also angered Jelai.

Jeremy never told Jelai the true story about his past relationship. All Jelai knew was that Aiza left Jeremy for Gilbert. This prompted Jeremy to tell her why he could not simply move past the shame. Jeremy was a third party in Aiza and Gilbert’s marriage. He was not just a rebound who was cast aside — he was also a “home wrecker.”

Jelai’s view of Jeremy completely changed. She couldn’t accept that he fell in love with someone who could be involved in a cheating scandal. The whole ordeal would be traumatic for her given her family’s heartbreaking experience with her father. He had cheated on her mother. He then left them with nothing and went to live with his mistress. It broke their family and, most of all, Jelai’s heart. She just couldn’t bring herself to continue being with Jeremy, a cheater in her eyes.

Jeremy truly loved Jelai, so he tried to make her see that he would never do that to her. He assured her that he had realized his mistakes and is willing to be a better man for her. He vowed to never treat her the way Jelai’s father treated their family.

As of today, we don’t know if they have resolved their differences and gotten back together, but Jeremy guarantees that he is working on himself to be a man deserving of Jelai’s love. DJ Popoy and Bea commend Jeremy for owning up to his mistakes and changing for the better. At the same time, they reminded listeners how wrong and ruinous cheating can be.
