With countless roles and big accolades under his belt, Joel Torre is truly a pillar in the local entertainment scene, and his daughter Marela Torre is now following his footsteps.

Marela said her dad is supportive of her showbiz career. In this Kapamilya Chat interview, we see in her background some books on acting handed down by her father. These books guided Joel while he was starting out in the industry, and he knows their content by heart. “Every time na magtatanong ako sa kanya about acting, magsasabi lang siya ng chapter,” she said.

While she’d rather learn the ropes on her own than constantly seek her dad’s opinion, there are days when she needs his advice, “’Pag may self-doubt ako sa gagawin kong eksesa, tinatawagan ko siya tapos tinutulungan niya ako i-overcome ‘yung doubt na ‘yun at mag-push through, mag-power through talaga sa eksena.”

Typical of a celebrity kid, Marela thinks showbiz has always been an inevitable path. She remembered her dad bringing her on set to stop her tantrums, “Iiyak ako ‘pag aalis talaga siya… So wala siyang choice, dadalhin niya ako sa taping niya. So ngayon ko lang na-realize medyo sakit ako sa ulo nung bata pala.”

But if not for the tantrums and early exposure to filmmaking, she wouldn’t have dreamed of becoming an actress, “Pero that prepped me to where I am today. Kung hindi ako umiyak, hindi rin siguro ako naging artista.” She thought to herself, “Ito talaga ang gusto kong gawin” after the series of exposure trips to her dad’s movie sets.

Beyond acting, Marela has so many other reasons to admire her father. At home, they share a close bond. She said Joel is a chill guy, partly because they’re also responsible children, “Siguro kaya din siya ‘go with the flow’ kasi hindi rin naman kami pabayang mga anak.”

The up-and-coming actress went on to talk about her dream role and co-stars. She wants to create a masterpiece that represents empowered women who manage to rise above life’s struggles. And her dream co-actor is The Broken Marriage Vow star Ronnie Lazaro.

In this segment, Marela shared five unknown facts about Joel. She revealed that he used to compete in mime competitions in high school. Swimming is his form of exercise. Also, he’s got the skills in drawing; real-life portraits are his forte. She calls him a good cook, which may not be surprising to some since Joel is a known restaurateur. And the last trivia is “Matagal siya malasing.”
