The word ‘brother’ might as well be synonymous with tough love. He shows you the way and protects you at any cost. He will be your backbone. But that doesn’t make you immune to conflict as siblings.

In the Kapamilya series A Family Affair, the Estrella Brothers Paco (Gerald Anderson), Dave (Sam Milby), Seb (Jake Ejercito), and Drew (Jameson Blake) showed us exactly how sweet and complicated brothers’ relationships can be, and that sometimes these cracks lead to intense confrontations.

This Kapamilya Toplist opens with the quartet deciding on whether or not to forgo their father (Edu Manzano)’s life support. It sparked a heated debate and split them into two – Paco and Seb versus Dave and Drew, as usual. Freddie died shortly, and we knew it would further destroy their unity.

The reading of Freddie’s last will sparked a big fight among them since only Dave got his inheritance. Although it will simmer down a bit, thanks to Cherry Red (Ivana Alawi), the bad news will further break Dave and Paco apart.

Everyone knows deep inside that the problem goes beyond wealth. There was Cherry Red, standing between them, as Dave’s first love and Paco’s wife. Their supposed friendly competition in a scene, resulted in another chaotic shouting match since none of them wanted to bring their ego down. Seb had to mediate to halt the brewing fight. Later on, Cherry would call for a family conference to settle the dispute once and for all.

For Dave and Paco, everywhere is an arena, an opportunity to prove the better guy between them. In a party scene, Paco erupted when he found out Cherry and Dave talked about the possibility of Seb working for the ranch, as her subtle way of saving the latter from his philandering. They all said their piece, making this catfight all the more satisfying.

During lunch at home, the spice came in the form of revelations and bloody reactions. Dave confessed to covering for Drew’s crime of murdering Panyong (Lito Pimentel). Paco, of course, fought back on behalf of his offended wife. The rumble was too loud that Cherry broke a plate to get their attention, then, stabbed Drew in the chest. The scene, which turned out to be Dave’s nightmare, brought our emotions into overdrive.

Their deadliest fights broke out after Cherry discovered a letter that reveals Freddie involvement in her mother's death. The brothers had a meeting after Cherry was rushed to the hospital. Paco and Dave clashed while Drew was remorseful. Seb attempts to break the fight but ends up exploding as well. After punches were thrown and a shouting match transpired, they arrived at a resolution to protect their family’s secrets.

But it doesn’t there. Paco and Dave will have to face the consequences of their sins and help their younger brothers deal with theirs. Dave was tired of covering for Drew, who was back to his addiction, while Paco had to clean up the mess Seb created by entering an affair with Florabelle (Claire Ruiz) and with the leakage of their scandal. On a side note, Gerald’s brilliance shined in his confrontation with Jake’s character, successfully painting his concern for his brother juxtaposed against his blazing anger.

Their lives continued to transcend into a downward spiral after Paco decides to spill the truth as he can't bear the guilt anymore, inducing a violent reaction from Dave, who felt his efforts have gone wasted.

We end this Toplist with the confrontation that broke out after Coleen (Rans Rifol) killed herself by hanging, unable to bear the impact of Seb’s affair and scandal. In the scene, the brothers revealed their bitterness, as if they are in a contest that measures who among them suffered the most.

No family is perfect. After everything that was said and done, we hope the Estrella Brothers acknowledge that each other is all they have.
