The hacienda Alcantara depicts a majestic paradise on the outside. But, behind the scenic and lush view is a family often caught falling out because of Tomas (Joem Bascon), the black sheep who unfortunately brought traces of his rudeness until adulthood. Tomas’ wickedness was roughened even more when his father fostered Daniel (Coco Martin) who showed greater tenacity, commitment, compassion, and potential than him. The rivalry resulted in a never-ending exchange of violence between the two, with mostly Tomas initiating their brawls as shown in this Kapamilya Toplist from the iconic series Walang Hanggan.
Tomas loathed Daniel since they were little. In fact, their first-ever clash happened when the young and puny Daniel defended Katerina from Tomas’ bullying. The scene ended with the two boys wrestling against one another on a mudded farmland.
Tomas turned more envious watching his father William (Joel Torre) taking delight at Daniel’s natural knack for agriculture, a quality he didn’t possess. Instead, Tomas turned to gambling in hopes of building an empire of his own. But the bad decisions swept all his wealth including his shares from the hacienda. With empty pockets, Tomas ran to William expecting to take money and never show up again. However, he failed to accomplish the mission as the hacienda was also struggling at that time. Angered, Tomas rushed to Daniel and punched him without warning and without a valid reason other than just unleashing his frustrations.
Another money-related argument transpired between the father and son, resulting in William’s cardiac arrest and death. But, instead of owning up to his mistake, Tomas attacked Daniel and pinned the blame on him. The guilty sinner projected his crime to the innocent and defenceless guy.
It was later on revealed that William bestowed Daniel with inheritance and left Tomas with nothing, much to the latter’s resentment. Tomas provoked Daniel and showered him with insults from parasite to rubbish, resulting in yet another scuffle.
Yet, Tomas managed to twist William’s last will and testament, granting him the powers to take the entire mansion under his control and drive Daniel away. Lola Henya (Susan Roces) tried to convince Daniel to leave and save their dignity but Daniel would rather accept Tomas’ mockery than leave Katerina (Julia Montes) behind.
This Toplist wouldn’t be complete without the extremely infuriating scene where Tomas accused Daniel of thief just to hinder him from attending Katerina’s graduation rites. And as punishment to the crime never committed, Tomas tied Daniel at the foot of a horse and drag him around the hacienda. The ruthless man declared, “Dito sa lupa ko ako ang batas! Ako ang hukom! Ako ang magpapataw ng kaparusahan!”
The most intense face-off of all was the scene where Tomas stabbed Daniel and assumed him dead. Unknown to Tomas, he only led Daniel closer to his roots as Emily (Dawn Zulueta) passed by and rescued the victim.
