The endless rivalry between Emman (Paulo Avelino) and Anton (Zanjoe Marudo) imbued viewers with lessons about love. While it can inspire a person to be selfless, sometimes love can be a double-edged sword that destroys someone. As they continue to fight for their hearts until the end, let us look back on the rivals’ most intense fights, driven by love and greed, in Walang Hanggang Paalam.
It was hate at first encounter, or even before they met. It was understandable considering that they love the same girl, Celine (Angelica Panganiban). But tension blazed up all the more when Emman’s request to spend time with his son, Robbie (Robbie Wachtel), led up to the latter’s abduction and a domino effect.
The first-ever brawl happened when Anton slashed thirty million pesos from his riches to negotiate with the kidnappers. He displayed arrogance while distorting Emman’s assumptions that there’s a syndicate behind Robbie’s disappearance. He harped on Emman’s inability to provide the ransom money and he called the latter weak and worthless. A quarrel ensued. Despite Anton spitting out nasty words and giving quite a good punch, the point went to Emman as he won Celine’s sympathy in this round.
As the story progressed, Anton started to show signs of wickedness and obsession over Celine. Of course, Emman would not like to see his ex-girlfriend suffering from Anton’s ruthless hands. He didn’t think twice to blow a punch upon seeing Anton hurting Celine. In another climactic part of the show, Anton beat up Celine and left her with wounds and bruises as evidence. Emman learned what happened, thus igniting another altercation with his biggest enemy.
They pointed a gun at each other when Emman, backed by Sam (Arci Munoz), caught Anton at the kidnappers’ hideout. To escape the tricky situation, Anton manipulated Emman into believing that they share the same motive of saving Robbie.
The shreds of evidence pointing to the Hernandezes’ crime had shaken up Celine’s feelings for Anton. She opened up to Emman one time, telling him about her hunches. Emman replied that they can’t just turn a blind eye to the revelations extracted from Araceli (Sherry Lara)’s arrest and eventual death. Anton arrived and eavesdropped on the conversation. Guilty and triggered, he grabbed Emman to signal another exciting fight scene.
Bernie (McCoy de Leon)’s disappearance and eventual death opened up a series of scuffles between Emman and Anton. There was a scene wherein Emman stormed to the Hernandez mansion in search of his brother, taking a hint from the latter’s last phone call.
Bernie’s wake became a battle arena when Anton dropped by trying to make himself appear innocent. However, Emman has witnessed so much wickedness that he knew Anton killed Bernie. He let out his rage and threw hurtful words towards Anton.
Later on, Anton managed to thwart the investigations on Bernie’s case by accusing the latter of emotional and mental instability, thus the suicidal tendencies. Bernie’s criminal records worked to his killer’s advantage, that’s why Anton felt he had the privilege to act arrogant. He served Emman a mocking smile upon seeing his frustrations.
The two engaged in a literally heart-stopping chase and fight scene. Emman ran after and beat up Anton, who eventually suffered from a heart attack. In the next clip, the men engaged in a gunfight until Emman seized and punished Anton by strangling him with bare hands.
