No one can question the chemistry of Viral Scandal’s Sicat family. It’s a bunch we’d love to be part of. And one factor that adds more sparkle to their story is the adorable relationship of DanKay or Dan and Kakay played by Dimples Romana and Miko Raval.

In this edition of Kapamilya React, Dimples and Miko shared how they managed to mount both the light and heavy scenes as they watch some clips from the series.

We begin with a dramatic encounter among the Sicats where Dan scolded Nico (Louise Abuel) for using his fist to protect Rica (Charlie Dizon) and the family from rumors. From tough guy, Dan mellowed down in heart-wrenching drama hating himself for not being able to save Rica from getting sexually assaulted.

“Sobrang galit ko, pinagpupukpok ko ‘yung dining table, as in namaga ‘yung kamay ko kasi sobrang daming takes hindi ko makuha,” Miko reacted, adding that his co-actors’ generosity helped him overcome the pressure.

He humbly reacted to his scenes to the point of trivializing his performance. Taking note of that, Dimples butted in that he’s usually too hard on himself, “Maayos na maayos naman ‘yung trabaho niya diyan, siya lang ang nag-isip na hindi. But I think tama din ‘yun kasi trabaho mo ‘yun. He takes everything seriously. Pero not once lumaylay ang acting niya sa show na ‘to.” She also commended his growth as an actor from Fabio in The Killer Bride to Dan in Viral Scandal.

Miko was obviously more comfortable and at his best in the next scene, a confrontation with Kakay about her past as an escort girl, which they took in the latter part of the cycle. “Naka-auto pilot na kami diyan, eh. As Dan and Kakay na kami diyan. Third to fourth cycle, talagang napagdaanan na ng character namin ‘yung journey na sobrang mabibigat tapos dadaan ka sa point na bumigay na talaga si Dan dahil kay Troy (Jake Cuenca),” shared Miko.

Dimples further revealed that DanKay was meant to add balance in the story, “’Pag mabigat ‘yung kina Charlie, ‘yun naman ang kilig kina DanKay. Nung binigatan ang DanKay, doon naman ‘yung kilig sa office nila. Para lang maganda ‘yung balanse.” By the latter cycles, their acting muscles were quick to make calculations. They already know what to do in a scene even without rehearsals and throwing lines.

We move on to Dimples’ dramatic moments as Kakay. The first scene witnessed Kakay and Rica’s confrontation as they argued about Troy’s involvement in their lives. “Ang intention ng scene na ‘yan ay sabihin kay Ikay na okay lang saktan mo ako, huwag mo lang sasaktan ang Tatay mo.” It was the scene where Kakay caught Bea (Karina Bautista) wearing the expensive necklace that Troy gave Rica.  

The best trivia about the scene is that Miko cried watching it on TV, “Wala ako sa eksena na ‘yan. Nung napanood ko, I was so surprised na sobrang wild ng eksena. Iyak ako nang iyak. Sabi ko, ‘Ganyan pala ‘yung nararamdaman nila dahil kay Dan.’” He cried not as Miko but as Dan, goes to show how they’re connected as a family.

Dimples also gave credit to their directors Dado Lumibao and Froy Allan Leonardo for being collaborative, “Hindi sila over-hovering. They will not tell you exactly what to do. Pero ang gagawin nila, they will ask you questions… In your head, napo-proseso mo na ‘yun. Habang napo-proseso mo na ‘yun, bumibigat na loob mo.”

In the next clip, Dimples showed a mother’s grief as the court dismissed Rica’s rape case. “Pagkabato ko ng linya, humarap na ako kay Miko the rest of the time kasi hindi na ako makahinga. Usually kasi ‘pag nagsasalita ka nang ganyan kabigat, hindi mo na hihintayin kung anong sasabihin ng kausap mo, eh. You always retreat to family. ‘Yun ang pagiging symbolic niya sa akin,” she reacted.

Dimples and Miko respect their characters’ story. “’Yung journey talaga namin as characters, ibang klaseng emosyon ‘yung pinagdaanan namin. Sobrang sakit sa puso ‘pag nagte-taping ‘pag ganun ‘yung eksena,” he said.
