Dimples Romana TV journey

Seasoned Kapamilya actress Dimples Romana will star in the much awaited drama Viral Scandal set to inflame and grip us in our primetime viewing starting November 15. But before she appears in the series opposite Charlie Dizon, Joshua Garcia, Jake Cuenca, Miko Raval, Karina Bautista, and Aljon Mendoza, among others in the ensemble cast, let us look back at her glittering and noteworthy portrayals through the years on Kapamilya programs.

In her more than two decades as an actress, Dimples Romana has achieved immense acclaim in the local entertainment industry. From the teeny bopper roles in her first television gigs, her image gradually transformed into being an on-screen mom who is either nurturing or domineering.

She was a teenager when she had her TV debut in the classic soap opera Esperanza, by playing one of the supporting characters Paola. Later on, she was tapped to join the cast of Tabing Ilog as the irritating and displeasing Jackie.

It was in 2002 when she became a part of a teleserye again through Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay as Kayla “Pards” Reneza, the childhood friend of John Lloyd Cruz’s Yuri Orbida, who harbored secret admiration towards him.

After a four-year hiatus, Dimples made a comeback in 2007 via Sineserye Presents: May Minamahal, portraying the older sister of the male lead Carlitos (Oyo Boy Sotto), Trina, who worked hard as a flight attendant in order to support her only child.

A year after, Dimples played the pivotal role of Trixie, the closest friend and caretaker of the Chosen One Lyka (Angel Locsin), in the remarkable action fantaserye Lobo.

2009 had been a busy period for her as she landed roles in four teleseryes. These include the young Elizabeth “Mamita” Martinez (Helen Gamboa) in Tayong Dalawathe young Milagros Perea (Rio Locsin) in Kambal sa Uma, the supportive sister Dina Javier in the Filipino adaptation of the Korean drama Only You, and the loving sister Charlie Castro in the romantic-comedy weekly primetime series George and Cecil.

She wowed us with her kontrabida prowess as Criselda Barrameda in the 2010 fantasy-drama Rod Santiago’s Agua Bendita. It was succeeded by her supporting appearance on the weekly youth-oriented series Gimik 2010 as Bingbing and remarkable performances as the doting mother Alvira del Valle in the remake of the classic soap opera Mara Clara.

The seasoned actress was once again given mother roles in the fantasy family drama Ikaw Ay Pag-ibig (2011), horror fiction series Oka2Kat (2012), and melodrama Lorenzo’s Time (2012).

In 2012, she was cast as the supporting character Emily Biglang-awa in the John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo-starrer A Beautiful Affair. The same happened in 2014 when she took part in the daytime drama anthology series Give Love on Christmas: The Gift Giver as Julie Aguinaldo-Salcedo.

Dimples fascinated us anew with her impressive performance as the loving mom Michelle in the romantic-family drama And I Love You So (2015) and as the responsible momma and daughter Amanda in the family melodrama The Greatest Love (2016).

Dimples also appeared in the action fantasy series Bagani (2018), wherein she portrayed Babaylan Gloria, the supernaturally gifted and eccentric seer.

Apart from these, the 33-year-old actress had special participations in Magkaribal (2010), Muling Buksan Ang Puso (2013), Mirabella (2014), Sana Bukas Pa Ang Kahapon (2014), and Pasion de Amor (2015), and guest appearances in Komiks Presents: Nasaan Ka, Maruja? (2009), 100 Days to Heaven (2011), and Little Champ (2013).

She also lent her talent in some episodes of the Saturday drama anthology Maalaala Mo Kaya, with the “Kalabaw” episode as one of the most notable appearances, and the Sunday fantasy anthology Wansapanataym.

The once dainty, reliable best friend or illuminating mother figure drastically shifted to that Iron Lady Daniela Mondragon, the antagonist hated yet loved and idolized in the top-rating afternoon drama Kadenang Ginto. And, Dimples had since personified such dragon-like, fierce, astute, and dominating stature, more than just wheeling her red luggage on the street.

Most recently, Dimples portrayed the special role of Faith/ Fatima, mother of lead characters Mira (Andrea Brillantes) and Joy (Francine Diaz) in the just-concluded primetime inspirational drama Huwag Kang Mangamba.

And now, Dimples would again grip us in the upcoming drama Viral Scandal, as Kakay, an OFW in Dubai who will return to the country to help her daughter Rica (Charlie Dizon) face the perils of a scandalous viral video that changed their life forever as a family.

Catch Dimples in the pilot episode of Viral Scandal, starting November 15, Monday, on the Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live and A2Z.
