While there are kids who take education for granted and are wasteful of their school supplies, there are many underprivileged children, especially in secluded barrios, who are actually hoping to have those, just like Jan Aure Gascon of Abra.
God-fearing, optimistic, and diligent, the 11-year-old pupil of Luba Central School have a lot of ambitions in life that he yearns to achieve someday. But at present, what he’d been wishing for was to have his own pencil and a more durable bag that he truly needs in school. Thus, as a firm believer that God listens to and answers our prayers, he unfalteringly included this in his daily conversations with God as soon as he wakes up every morning.
As we followed his inspiring story, Aure related that he was only able to jot down their lessons and accomplish their assignments through the old or broken pencil that a generous classmate of his lent him. At the same time, he also couldn’t help but feel envious to his schoolmates who, unlike him, have sturdier bags. However, if he’s about to make a choice between having a new bag or his own pencil, he would still opt for the latter.
Despite his predicament, this didn’t put off his burning passion towards education as he makes sure to come to school early everyday and to accomplish their homework albeit not having electricity at home by using a flashlight. Aside from studying well, he also chooses to help his mother sell spring rolls after dismissal to earn a living, rather than to run and play with his classmates.
Just when we thought that Aure’s is all about work and school, he also knows how to have fun and rest by watching his favorite ABS-CBN primetime series FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano at their neighbor’s house once he’s done with dinner and his assignments. While many viewers are hooked to see the action-packed and/or kilig scenes, what he’s actually looking forward are those scenes wherein the characters are praying, particularly lead protagonist Ricardo “Cardo” Dalisay (Coco Martin) and his Lola Flora (Susan Roces), since he’s prayerful like them, too. It’s also the program that inculcated to him the value of prayer for God will surely grant everything that we prayed for in His time.
And that time has finally come as God seemingly sent ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya to their secluded town to deliver joy and hope to the pupils of Luba Central School by distributing sets of new, quality school supplies and new sturdier bags. This blessing did brought delight to the pupils, especially to Aure for his long-time prayer finally got answered and he was given more than what he asked for.
