Mother’s Day has certainly been one heartwarming moment of love and music as Megastar Sharon Cuneta performed in her first digital concert to mark the day of our beloved moms on Sunday, May 10.
Livestreamed on ABS-CBN Entertainment’s Facebook page and YouTube channel, Sharon’s “Love and Music: A Mother’s Day Special” raked in more than Php2 million in donations for ABS-CBN’s Pantawid Ng Pag-Ibig campaign, dedicated to COVID-19 frontliners and people directly affected by the Enhanced Community Quarantine.
The night was filled with nostalgia as Sharon sang her monster hits, mostly themes from blockbuster movies and her popular songs composed by legendary OPM songwriter Rey Valera. She looked comfortable and lively in an intimate setting at their residence, as she exuded the homey feel sharing an endearing family moment towards the end of the stream with husband Senator Francis Pangilinan, daughters Frankie and Miel, and son Miguel. She also thanked daughter KC Concepcion for a Mother’s Day gift she received during the day.
Sharon said she was very passionate in mounting the digital concert, saying it was her most “important” ever since it was for the “best cause.” During the livestream, she had the USD2,700 red Gucci sweatshirt she first wore during the online gig up for sale, with the proceeds to be added to the collected donations for Pantawid Ng Pag-Ibig. An anonymous viewer later purchased it, delighting Sharon, who said she would dry clean and ship it to the buyer right away.
With Louie Ocampo as her musical director, Sharon started the evening with her classic first hit, “Mr. DJ,” in a more up-tempo arrangement. She would then follow it up with her massively popular song “Kahit Maputi Ang Buhok Ko.”
She would then continue with moving renditions of theme songs from her top-grossing movies with the country’s leading action stars in the the 1990s. She sang “Maging Sino Ka Man” from the movie of the same title with Robin Padilla, “Kahit Konting Pagtingin”which she made with National Artist for Film, the late Fernando Poe, Jr., and “Pangako Sa ‘Yo” in a movie she starred with Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla, Jr.
Sharon, who served as a mentor in The Voice Kids and The Voice Teens and became a judge in Your Face Sounds Familiar while performing occasionally on ASAP Natin ‘To, then performed a special song she said she could not sing for the longest time. It was Barbara Streisand’s “Places That Belong To You,” which she said is a personal favorite.
She would then sing a milestone composition as a young singing star, which was her first song written by the late OPM luminary George Canseco, “Tubig at Langis.” Then she would sing another Canseco classic, “Ngayon At Kailanman,” which was the theme song of her 1992 blockbuster film of the same title opposite Richard Gomez.
The Megastar would then belt out her version of a famous song composed by Louie Ocampo, “Ikaw Lang Ang Mamahalin,” followed by “Kung Kailangan Mo Ako,” the titular theme of her movie with the late Rudy Fernandez, and “Sana’y Maghintay Ang Walang Hanggan” from her iconic film “Bituing Walang Ningning” with Christopher de Leon and Cherie Gil.
She wrapped up the unforgettable night with the first song Louie Ocampo composed for her, the ballad “Hagkan.”
